history is punctuated by events that have a permanence, an effect on the direction we move in.
the 20th century was marked - among other things - by it's world wars and moon landings.
so far in the 21st century we have 9/11 and, i'd say, an explosive leap forward in biological knowledge.. so what's the next big thing?
Jesus' second comming. It's going to happen in my lifetime, I know it because the bible tells me. All the signs are there. I've got my rapture letters (http://www.raptureletters.com/ ) ready to go to my loved ones on the big day and now I'm just-a-waitin! And waiting. And waiting.
On an equal note, I believe that it won't be long before they genetically modify cows so they do not produce greenhouse gasses.

i can't stand it any longer.
i am never out in service (i still turn in "informal" time) i still attend the meetings.
I kept calling saying I couldn't do it, and then a few times just didn't show up for the meeting the night of the talk with no notice. The TMS overseer took me off the list himself to save himself the grief. I had no problem with it.

OK, so using the stats that truthseeker provided ... if there's 22,000 JW's in BC, that represents about 20.44% of the JW's in Canada. If you look at the growth in Canada from 2005 to 2006 (using the average JW's figure) you have a total increase of 84 JWs, Canada wide. 20.44% of that would be a growth of 17 JW's in BC. If you go by the number baptised in Canada, in BC there would have been 405 JW's baptised in 2006.
Crappy numbers I'd say!

someone needs to get the word out that the only reason blood was banned was to incite persecution against jehovah's witnesses.
after the end of world war ii did not bring armageddon.
the book four presidents of the watchtower society says that individuals were considering banning blood transfusions but that rutherford was against it.. jehovah's witnesses say that abortion is wrong, that even if life is just a few cells, it's worth protecting and would be murder if someone aborted it yet.
I would say it's the same as various Christian groups who are "pro-life" along with "pro-death penalty". Some people like having it both ways when it suits them.

On another point ... I'd just take the national figures and divide them by the % of JW's in BC to get semi-OK figures for BC.

They don't publish numbers by region, only nationally so unless there's someone with the scoop in bethel you'll be hard pressed to get them.
Might I suggest though that the increase ( 500 people for 22,000 members or 2.2%) could be attributed to some extent by the natural birth rate which is about 0.3% in Canada it brings the increase to under 2%. Not a good increase if you look at it from a business point-of-view.
