a producer with nbc in new york called within the past hour to tell me that the segment i interviewed for (once in nashville, tn in august and once in washington, dc in october) is set to air tonight on nbc nightly news with brian williams, that is, if no huge calamity takes place to bump the feature.
this piece will be two minutes and 45 seconds long, the longest slot nightly news has for topics of interest, and will feature a discussion about the court documents that are found on the cd i recently produced, "secrets of pedophilia in an american religion, jehovah's witnesses in crisis.
in addition, nbc's internet site, msn, will follow with a detailed story.
Oh shoot, and I'm going to be out.

i know that the atheists are pissed that the theists are always trying to convert them/condemn them to hell and the theists are tired of the atheists always trying to knock down their beliefs.... .
where the heck are you hanging out that theist/atheists are always haranguing you and trying to convert/deconvert you???
am i just missing the roving hoards of these two groups that are searching for the unsuspecting pedestrian or coffeeshop patron and then whammo -they try to convert them???
Seriously ... I cannot go into a Walmart without some young x-tian trying to convert me.

there seems to be a lot of hostility on the board toward atheists still and a lot of comments floating around like atheists are to preachy.
well i want to take a quick minute and deal with some of these issues.
to begin with, to make any statement regarding atheists in general would be false for several reasons.
Also, atheist pizza is the best.
OH MY SCIENCE!!! How could I have forgotten about atheist pizza already! That poor waitress. When she left our table I have no doubt she prayed for us non-stop.

Other then that ... perhaps a travel coffee mug.

book - parenting beyond belief: on raising caring ethical children without religion.. i just wanted to point out this book to other jwdr's.
i just finished reading it last week and i thought it would be good to post on here, not only for atheist or secular parents, but also those in "religious limbo" for example those who have just left a religion and don't want to join another and don't necessarily know what or how to explain things to their kids.. it is comprised of a series of essays by various intellectuals and covers various subjects such as religious tolerance and education, encouraging your children to think and explore their thoughts, holidays and how to handle them, how to explain the "big questions" and ways to seek community.. personally, i think that the book kind of pushes universal unitarianism in several points throughout.
it's subtle pushing but it's there none-the-less, but other then that it's actually put together very well.
It was a good read, that's why I reccomend it.

new light for the mormon?.
from: http://www.sltrib.com//ci_7413508?iadid=search-www.sltrib.com-www.sltrib.com.
the book's current introduction, added by the late lds apostle bruce r. mcconkie in 1981, includes this statement: "after thousands of years, all were destroyed except the lamanites, and they are the principal ancestors of the american indians.

They have been bending and twisting every witch way since the video "DNA vs. The Book of Mormon" (from http://www.lhvm.org/dna.htm ) came out.
That was my first thought on it. DNA evidence doesn't support the Mormon teachings however if they're able to change their stance from "most" to "some" they can just argue that they just haven't tested the right people yet.
