  malawi

  i saw an abc news report yesterday on bill clintons efforts to help poor farmers in malawi.

  i had a jw flashback to the seventies when i was taught to end every prayer with "and please help and protect our brothers and sisters in malawi".

  it felt like a vietnam flashback!

  I remeber the articles on the persecution in Malawi when I was a kid. I especially recall an incident where they tied a brick around a brothers testicles and made him walk around. Ouch! After reading in CoC the information on the Malawi/Mexico discrepancy it really made me feel for these people. The Society made them suffer for nothing! JK

  Do you think the society will abandon 1914?

  it seems to me that they're slowly dismantling the date theology that ties the end times to this period in history.

  first, they updated the generation teaching to mean a figurative generation, thus removing the possibility in the near future when all who were alive in 1914 are dead.

  then, they abandoned 1935 so the annointed will never die off, and prove their belief that the annointed will see armageddon wrong.

  2034 will be the "magic date." They will have to scramble for something before then to explain why the big "A" hasn't arrived. A replacement for the "Generations" BS.

  It was interesting how a JW critic predicted that they would have to change the 1914 generation teaching in the early 90's, and then WHAM, they did it!

  i have been in a relationship with a woman for 4 years.

  we have gone through a lot of difficult things together, and always seemed to work it out.

  but in the last few months things have gotten to the point that i am considering calling it quits.

  way, way back in 1962, when i was four years old and my family relocated from harlem to queens, ny, our tuesday night book study, as it used to be called way back when almost universally in jw land, was conducted by a woman !!

  please don't think i don't remember correctly because of my young age at the time, but the sis.

  who conducted it is still alive, and i practically know her whole family.

  Yes, my older sister conducted one. She wore a Kleenex on her head when she did.

  I conducted one after I got baptized at age 13. This was before the "Elder Arrangement." Ah, the bad old days!

  yesterday i called a family on the west coast that were in my congregation 18 years ago.

  between parents, kids and marriage partners, there were six of them who had been witnesses.

  they have all faded, and have had nothing to do with the witnesses for at least 15 year or more.. yet, none of them is in any way active even in looking at the ex-jw sites online.

  Pain and being "shellshocked" keep people from reseaching. It took me almost 3 years after getting DF'ed to start looking at these sites. It liberated me from being an emotional hostage, but it took time to get here.

  Plus many others are not computer literate, coming from dubdumb.
