When someone is brutally honest, they are usually more interested in being brutal than honest.
What I have observed recently, is that you cannot stand it when someone disagrees with your opinion. You fly into ad hominem attacks, making insulting comments about the one that disagrees with you. Are you that insecure that you have to stoop to this level?
You say that you have an Honors degree in English. I do not doubt that. Please use more civilized methods of communicating your points, or you will lose all credibility with thinking individuals. I too have an honors degree, graduating at the head of my class with a 4.0 GPA. And guess what? It doesn't mean crap here! I respect posters that have never stepped a foot in a college classroom that carry on dialogue with civility, more than a pontificating curmudgeon.
Now, I am sure that you will tell me everything that you think is screwed up with me, as you have in the past. It is your style, and becoming trite. Those that I care about on this board knows my whole story, and that is where I get my support here. So blather on if you must. But please try to be civil to others on this board.

i've been invited by a group of friends to join them at their house shooting off fireworks.
ok, first red flag is i know they are not licensed and the fireworks are illegal.
though, isn't it "illegal" the same as driving the car a bit over the speed limit?.

Fireworks are safe if you have a respect for them and keep your distance. Unfortunately, many people do stupid things with fireworks, and it becomes very unsafe. Me and a bunch of JW buddies used to drink and do some of the stupid stuff. That gives me an idea for another thread!
Bottom line, if you don't trust the person setting them off, you have made the right decision.

i got the idea for this thread by talking with a friend this weekend who had been abused by a father when young.
this person confronted this parent about it and got a very self righteous reply back from the offender.
already a precedent for exposing the watchtower society has been set.

when i left the organization one of the reasons i did so was because of the hypocrisy i saw within the congregation regarding sheepherding the weak.
people who were struggling to make meetings, ones who were house-ridden due to illness or depression, ones who don't keep a prominent position in the hall, these ones were all ignored.
i was one who never ever ever missed a meeting and in august i suddenly stopped going.
