i was just wondering for thos that have been raised within and then were df'ed ... did you return before giving it up for good?.

i grew up with the terror of post vnam and 1975 being the end or the end being just around the cornor, i was df'ed, thought long and hard.

and returned anyway.

A lot of people do return. I have just been speaking to my parents who have tried in vain to return me to "the fold". They have given me examples of other df'd ones who are now returning. Do you know why they are going back? It is due to loneliness and lack of family involvement! Not a good reason I think. My problem is that I was raised to be too moral. I refuse to devote my life to something that I do not believe simply to have a relationship with my family. So I walk alone with my life in tatters. However, I think this is the right course instead of living a lie. In any case, if I were to believe the WTS principles, I would still be destroyed at Armageddon because Jehovah would see into my heart and know it is not in the right place. So what's the point?

I seem to remember from my JW days that there was talk of "The King of the North and the King of the South" spoken of in Revelation (I think - it has been 10 years since I left!) being interpreted as being Russia and America during the cold war. There was something about a seven headed beast as well. I think they said it was the United nations. Or was that the "two horned beast". I can't remember.

No New Order?

i'm a newbie here...but i remember posts about jesus never having mentioned the prospect of eternal life on earth.......my personal theory is that as the numbers of jw's began to go past 144,000 in the mid-1930s, it was felt that an explanation had to be offered to the rank-and-file, and the idea of the "great crowd" living eternally on earth fit the bill......so much so that an explosion of numbers began because no one wanted to be left out on the prospect of eternal life in paradise.. if a business can tell people something, and it dramatically increases traffic, isn't the temptation too great?

wouldn't, in time, the benefits seem to outweigh the negatives (such as a compromise to honesty, and, in fact, wouldn't the original lie be lost to the sands of time?.

Why are we so concerned with why we are here and what is our purpose? WE ARE HERE and that's all that matters. We have about 70-100 years if we are lucky. Don't blow it all by being concerned that there may be something afterwards. What if there isn't and more importantly, why should there be? We are blessed with intelligence. At least I think it is a blessing. Animals don't care about where they come from and why they are here. They just try to survive and further their species by producing offspring. Why don't we just try to make the best of what we have now? Live a good life, prosper yourself and your family and be happy. Don't tread on other people, be kind to them. If we followed these simple rules there would be no problems and no cause for debate. We do not need religion - just common sense!

JW's and the question of alien existence

it seems to me that jw's do not believe in the existence of alien beings as the bible has nothing to say on the matter.

everything seems to revolve around the planet earth and the possibility of there being alien life is considered to be apostate.

sounds a bit like the oppression that galileo received from the catholic church when he suggested that the earth moved around the sun and not vice-versa!.

Good points made. However, mankind seems to be too sure of itself I feel. Those "unlikely" series of events that lead to the perfect environment for life to exist could be duplicated somewhere else by a "divine" being (if creation is correct). Nowhere did I mention chance. I am talking about God having other races elsewhere that could be doing much better than us. Would he have reason to tell us about their existence? He hasn't told us much about our own planet let alone those elsewhere in the universe.

Anyway, have the scientists (who I am sure know much more than me) looked at every single one of the 200 billion stars in our galaxy? Unlikely I think as it would take several hundred million years to examine! Oh, and then I forgot, there are hundreds of billions of galaxies as well! We do assume a lot don't we.

I am just making the point that the creator could have many "experiments" going on all over the place. What makes us so important? It is like one of us being extremely concerned with a colony of ants in Southern Namibia. Would you really care what happens to them? If he is the perfect creator and can do no wrong, why did he create us with the ability to err? Don't talk about free will as I know you are all thinking. If he can do no wrong, has he a free will? Interesting isn't it?
