Unhappy either way, it seems. Difficult one.
I spent two years leading a double life before I left the witnesses and it tore me apart. My mental condition has not been the same since. I wish I could advise, but either way will be heart-wrenching. My thoughts and feelings go out to you, but you have to make a decision - IN or OUT, there is no in-between.

a few days ago i had the privilege of being invited to a regular pioneer's birthday party.
i met her a couple of weeks ago, and even though she knows i am inactive and have serious doubts, we hit it off on a social level.

Just a small word of advice, DON'T TRY TO CHANGE THEM! I tried with my parents and quickly realised it was a lost cause. They are totally brainwashed and will not listen to reason. Of course there is nothing wrong with celebrating a birthday but if you push it too far, you will be labled "apostate" and your family will never speak to you. I just hope that someday they will realise they are being misled, but until then, I will at least be able to talk to my parents. I am thankful for this forum as I can let my feelings out to like minded people, as nobody else understands what it is like.

there can be little doubt that the wts 'shunning' policy is a dangerous weapon.
each year tens of thousands of people are disfellowshipped, and experience the reality of being shunned.
many of them still believing the wts doctrine that if they die in this condition they will shortly be executed by god at har-meggedon and die an eternal and disgraceful death some leaving the faith altogether.
Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering! A little green guy once said that! For me, all of the above were true. I was afraid to leave because of the feelings of my parents. After I left I was angry because I lost all of my 'friends'. Still later, I became hateful of the org and I think everyone who posts here has experienced the suffering due to shunning! Still, the Dark Side is much better!

i've told all my worldly friends and my immediate family - my kids have told their friends.
i haven't been to a meeting in over a year (and have no desire to go to one) - but i'm not dad or dfd.
Well said, SNG! No one should feel like they should be part of any "organised religion". Question everything and decide what's best for you - that's the key. It can be a lot of fun and very educational too!
