I thought of that Mary. Everyone else in "the family" would go for it but Matt is trying to get reinstated. So unfortunately we can't be hooligans publicly this year.
Mike.
btw, y'all keep those ideas coming for what to serve on my italian xmas dinner thread:.

ok...for those who just had thanksgiving....or those who might cook one of these for x-mas......here's how to properly cook a turkey!!.
step 1) go buy a turkey.
step 2) take a drink of whiskey, scotch, or jd.
LOL I've heard a version of that on the radio.
Thanks for the reminder tho. I'll start cooking Xmas eve and have everything ready Xmas day and I'll have to stay sober so I don't f up. But boy oh boy am I going to enjoy that first beer once dinner's on the table!

i was reading a post that reminded me of the songs that were popular but was wrong to listen to for various reasons.. we all remember puff the magic dragon being about drugs, which i hear was just a rumour.. another i remember was let it be by the beatles, which was " catholic based about mary the mother of jesus" when apparently it was written about paul mccartney's own mother.
shows what they know.. which songs do you remember that were "bad" that we were not supposed to listen to?
Well in my congregation and the nearby ones that was a pretty easy question to answer.
Q: "What should we not listen to?"
A: "Whatever [Bendrr] listens to".
Therefore officially banned in my neck of the woods back in da day: AC/DC, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, KISS, Poison, Warrant, Winger, Cinderella, Vixen, Lita Ford, Van Halen, Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Stones, The Beatles, Manowar, Metallica, Megadeth, Pink Floyd, Judas Priest, Guns & Roses, and any other band played on the local rock station. In fact, I think the station itself was unofficially banned.

i cried for a long time today, very deeply, sobbing heavily for those i have lost in my life.
mostly due to watchtower rules.. i am developing a new set of bear friends and look forward to good times with them.. the suicidal thoughts have subsided.. i have never really tried to make a concrete set of friends here.
i think its time to do so.
Hey big guy glad to see you back.
Start counting friends you've made with the replies to this thread. We're yer peeps bro!

yes your old pal bendrr has gone and done it this time!
i've committed myself to hosting christmas day at my place and that includes cooking a christmas dinner for at least 11 people.. i already planned on my "adopted" family coming over which would be no big deal, just snacks and a few beers.
but this year i spent thanksgiving with my older brother and his family.

Meanwhile, here's an update that made me happy. I just got off the phone with my younger brother. He's in the process of trying to get reinstated. (it's called groveling, and he agrees with that description)
I invited him over for my big Christmas dinner. Well actually everyone else did too. My older half-brother and his family, my "adopted" family, all of them have been dying to meet Matt. So I called him and asked him to come. Matt said he'd love to and will be here, even going to bring his guitar and amp. Hopefully he'll bring his keyboard too. It's some big fancy one, a Korg Triton (forget the model) with a touch screen and wow it's something else!

BTTT.
I have another guest coming over for Christmas dinner so now it's going to be even better than I expected. I'll tell about that in another thread.
Keep the food talk going! I need the help and appreciate all the info.

I think I struck a nerve with my microwave comments.
I'm gonna keep this thread near the top for a while.
Lasagne is good and may be one of the dishes I make. I was thinking maybe some seafood. Shrimp champagne maybe. Bread definitely, with some sauce and goat cheese. Plenty of pasta.
Josephus, thanks for the advice to keep it simple but unfortunately in this case simple isn't good enough.

I already planned on my "adopted" family coming over which would be no big deal, just snacks and a few beers. But this year I spent Thanksgiving with my older brother and his family. We were talking about plans for Xmas and I offered for them to come over and let me do the cooking. (of course my sister in law jumped at the chance, i mean what mom wouldn't take the opportunity to stay out of the kitchen on Christmas?)
I've never officially hosted a holiday and this is my first chance. Now I can indeed cook, as my friends and family will tell you. But I've never cooked on such a large scale before. I'm not going to cook a turkey or a ham. Too traditional, too conventional. Two things this family is not. None of them know what I'm going to cook, but I do know they're expecting me to outdo myself in the kitchen so I can't let them down. So I was thinking of cooking a big Italian meal since I just love Italian. I've been surfing recipe sites online for ideas and everything I read sounds good. But I've got to narrow it down a little. I need to put together a spread that everyone will enjoy, come back for seconds and thirds, and still leave some leftovers that I can take to work and share with the guys at the shop.
So I'm hoping that we've got some Italians here or at least some knowlegable afficianados who can provide some guidance as to a good menu. Help me out here y'all. This is my first time hosting a Christmas dinner and I want to make it one for the history books.
Mike, who after hitting the [post] button is back to surfing and printing out recipes.
p.s. keep in mind that I don't have a microwave. I detest them and will not tolerate my cooking being soiled by one of those infernal contraptions from hell. The only compromise I've ever made in my cooking is using electric instead of gas and that is as far as I will ever go.
