How would you compare the XD to a glock?
Never owned a Glock so I couldn't say.
The XD has a grip and a trigger safety and now Springfield has added a thumb safety as well. And now they have the new M-factor XD's, with match grade barrels.
I'm very happy with the accuracy. Disassembly is fairly simple, but you've got to be careful with the recoil spring on the 5" models. When I took mine out for cleaning, the guide rod shot all the way across the room.

Yeah you only need to use one.
It happens quite a bit with parts. There's another box out there somewhere with no gasket in it, I garantee you. I see stuff like that alot. Misboxed parts, too few or too many parts in the box, even cores and defects put back on the shelf.

I'm a lot better with a rifle. On full-auto firing 7.62x39 I can consistently get 5-6" groups as long as I keep the bursts to 3 rounds. Once you hit about 5 rounds the recoil is horrendous and you just have to either let go the trigger or hang on for dear life.

I managed several 3" groups. I've got a bad habit I'm still working to get rid of, and that is "flinching" when I pull the trigger. When I do that, the shots go low and right.
