It will be with me for the rest of my life. Maybe when I'm a really old man some will come up to me and tell me I was right and because I left they were able to get up the courage to leave as well.

How long do you think being a JW will affect you?
by Adam ini haven't been on this board for a while.
i've been on a conservative ezboard trying to see if we can't do something about political issues.
i've also got a new job, had to get the car fixed, been best man in a wedding, and watched the two towers on vhs.

biggest WTBTS threat
by stillajwexelder insorry if there has already been a thread on this subject.
do you think a really big threat to the wtbts is from people like me who are still witnesses and in the organization but also post on this board and have an open mind -- or do you think there are bigger threats -and if so what would they be?

The biggest threat has to be the passage of time. Nothing the WT has ever said about the end has remotely been true. Even if the older ones are now trapped the younger ones can and will get away.

It is that time of year again.....
by caspian inyes my good friends it is september, elders all around the world are having their loving elders meetings, where they discuss coming to see you all to encourage you back to the fold.... hurrah!
returning to jehovah.
7 but may the elders themselves take any initiative in approaching a disfellowshipped person?

Still inactive and still waiting. Guess they're still drawing straws or flipping coins to see who gets to act like they're my friend this year.

Strange days at my old hall. please read
by josephus ini havent said too much here recently, mainly due to a severe lack of anything to say !, however, tonight my old hall has had a special meeting with a talk by the head of the ireland branch.
he is visiting for a week and afterwords all present will be having snacks and drinks, in the hall.. please tell me what is happening with the world when special saterday night meetings are held with refreshments.
i think its because about 10 people have left recently and made no secret of their reasons, but still, its unheard of for this to happen.. any thoughts.

In my old hall they would bring food for after hall cleaning or other projects. The bookstudy that met there would occasionally serve something. The parking lot was used to serve a meal after a funeral.

Our regular pioneers would often write "depressed" or "sick" on their time slips to explain why they had not made the monthy quota. These same pioneers would recuperate to go to an out of state party or some other sort of recreation.

Bethel elders get to be table heads and give permission for those finished eating to leave.
They also get to go on those lucrative out of town speaking assignments.
When a Bethelite needs counsel they get to give it. The actually keep lists of Bethel elders for reference.

Do You Enjoy Being "Part of the World"???
by minimus insince before a witness gets baptized, they are told to "be no part of this world".
that is beaten into everyone's head.
now that you're not a jw or are on the way out, how does being part of the "world" feel?

The WT definition of the world as being that part of mankind alienated from God never really made any sense. Come to think of it anything the WT sought to define never really made any sense.

contribution boxes, speakers with x yrs of service and emotional inducement
by truthseeker inat the district convention i attended, i had an excellent view of the stage.
especially those contribution boxes.
every so often, paticularly near the end of the morning and afternoon sessions, those sisters were doing the contribution box walk.

People aren't jumping into those jobs so easily these days. They have to keep pushing it as some sort of accomplishment.

What are the average hours for publishers? The pioneers would always stand on the corner until the meeting for field service began because they were told their time would be continous if they only stopped for 15 minutes.

When I moved into the last cong. I attended I had made it known I did not want to be reappointed, I did not comment or go in FS with them.
At my last meeting a young idiot elder was joking his way though his meeting part. At the conclusion, he was reading the names of newly appointed MS then made the comment: "It's a pleasure to serve in the ___________________ congregation."
It was then I made the decision it would be a pleasure not to attend the __________________ congregation.
