Has anyone got anything positive from being a JW?
by diamondblue1974 in.
i hear and read alot about peoples experiences and some are pretty horrendous....does anyone actually feel they have benefited from being a jw at least in one way or another...me personally i feel i benefited from the ministry school as public speaking is part of my job and has definately improved career prospects?.

I learned how to speak in public which has helped me tremendously in secular life.
I know lots more about the Bible than clergymen/women in local religious organizations. Go ahead and make fun of that statement, however it is true.
It prevented me from falling into the bigoted feelings of my family, even though they were Witnesses.
I learned about true Christianity from the false-Christianity of the WBTS. Sometimes a bad example is better than a good example to teach a lesson.
To have empathy for others. Although the WBTS is able to teach this, they are not able to follow this. How ironic!
Everything about the WBTS is not bad or evil. Even an Authoritarian religion can teach good habits. You just have to cull out the un-Christian, useless chaff. Some people can be damaged from this experience though. -

Update -- wife given permission new union without my permission
by belu insince my last post i found out that my wife lied to get a "vow of faithfullness with another man.
in march of 2004 she asked me to sign an agreement document to give to a lawyer in order to get our marriage annulled.
i agreed only on her promise not to give it to the congregation to be with another man but only for her lawyer.

Belu,
You have my respect for moving on, I don't mean that lightly. Bitterness is poison, and when dealing with the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society there is too much that can lead to bitterness.
This woman doesn't deserve any more of your time and neither does the Man-Made-Religion. If you were a practicing Witness, were satisfied with being a Witness, and wanted to remarry a Witness my comments would have been different.

Did you ever see a TRULY happy JW?
by cyborgVision ini mean seriously, most of us have been inside for a number of years.
so during all this time did you ever see happy person or a family or were you ever truly happy there, even for a brief period of time?
if you were happy, when was it?

Yes, I have seen some Witnesses that were truly happy. Are there more, or less, who are truly happy than in other religions? I don?t know, my guess is that it is probably the same.

Belu,
What is your true agenda in this? This woman is a ?true Jehovah?s Witness? by no means. She is very marginal at best. You evidently are not a Jehovah?s Witness so what do you care.
I read some of the emails from your site. It sounds like you knew what you were getting into, and if you didn?t know you had your head up you?re a$$.
This sounds like a control issue! You lost- you aren?t winning dude - let it go. What benefit are you going to get out of this? Is your ego is so small and fragile that this what you spend your time on? Get on with your life man! Stalk someone else!
I had an ex wife (Baptist, not a witness) that spread lies about me, but I didn?t have to broadcast to everyone about it. They knew by my actions what a bunch of lies they were - I never had to say a thing in my defense, and this was even though her Baptist friends hated my religion.
I really hope you get the professional help you evidently need to be happy and to move on with your life. May you have peace and mental health. -

How Many Of You "Bumped" Your Field Service Hours?
by EvilForce inhow many of you bumped up your field service hours so you could keep the elders off your back?
our congo had a 10 hour "soft" target for guys.
however, if you didn't meet the 10 hours you got your "privledges" reduced or revoked.

I agree with the "not being a team player." Much like my situation when I stepped aside (told em to take this job and shove it). Just an announcement of deletion, kept doing all activities; prayer, conduct bookstudy, etc. - just not an elder anymore.
My "sin of not being a team player"? Making sure and elder, and sister involved, that commited serious sin got the same due process of appeals, just like everyone else; and not being fast-tracked into dis-fellowshipment and announcement in three days. Not playing the game of cover up so the Society could happily claim you are always treated better in the congregation ... instead of being backstabbed, slandered, and falsely accused by the status climbing "wanna be PO" elder in the congregation (and another one in a sister congregation), CO and "Godless" so called anointed DO - like the Society claims happens in the corporate world. Funny, I've always been treated with much more respect and consideration in the corporate world.
