when is the last time you had the jeezus scared out of you?

"Later, actually days later he called and apologized profusely. He had truly been a shepherd to me. He said he never should have done that knowing my past. He said part of the reason I have that "startle" effect has to do with a post traumatic syndrom.......from being abused. He said that when someone hits you or starts yelling at you for no reason, you try to learn to be "aware" all the time and when you are caught off guard you really are scared to death of what's coming at you. "

How do you feel about that?

I used to date a guy who I swear had that "startle" effect. I could go to his house, and he be sound asleep, but as soon as I stepped foot into his room, no matter how soundless I was, he was startled awake, with fear in his eyes. I was quiet entering house, as well, because he lived with his elderly grandmother. I told him more or less, that I KNEW something happened to him when he was younger, but he would just say he didn't want to talk about it. He also seemed to hate his mother, he only talked about her with anger. It was kind of scary to see him respond like that.

man they are cunning little people - they make you drop everything that is good and normal in your life, make you turn against your family and friends, then build you up to think you are wonderful, then once you leave them, you are left in limbo with nothing for you either side of the fence.

Hi Nat!

that is exactly how I have felt...even tho I was only raised jw in early childhood,("train up a child...") I have felt that there was "nothing" for me either. You know, cause ALL the other churches were EVIL. I just knew when I started going to church, I was going to find "demons" in the basement and was actually afraid to go down there alone without a light. (and I was an adult!) Guess I've been in denial, (my usual way of coping with EVERYTING), that because I was only exposed for a relatively short time, that it did not affect me.

I am new here and also had this same problem, my first post was blank...not even sure what I did to post next time, clicked on something towards bottom of conversation window, maybe? (I am NOT very computer literate) Maybe some one else knows for sure??

Apostate Mormons and Masons should be avoided

my jw wife expresses horror at the though of looking at apostate mormon and mason websites for information on them as they are likely to be biased and untruthful and populated by people with a chip on their shoulder who will lead you astray as to the truth about them.. she has been invited to attend an open day at the masonic lodge on sunday by a good friend (a high ranking mason) of ours, and to bring other members of 'her group' with her.. i read her the first few paragraphs from http://www.ephesians5-11.org/ex_masons_for_jesus/mensclub.htm .

suppose that a group of pagans got together and decided that they wanted to form a men?s club and each man independently decided that he wanted to start every meeting with a prayer to his demon god.

they could all agree to this, but they would have a rough time selecting a name which all could embrace.
