  barbour and 1874 contra 1914. does anyone have some information about why and how barbour change that the gentiles times first was to end in 1874 and later on to 1914. i have some information about his statements about the year 1974 as the year for the return of jesus (parausia) and also the year of the end of the gentile times.

  i have read the case of carl oluf jonsson, but have found no good explanation to this question: why and how did he change the gentiles times to end in 1914 instead of 1974 as first counted.

  i think these questions are important because russell adopted the chronology of barbour almost in total.. .

  Thank for information received from some of your mainly AlanF. It answer some questions but not all. I’m not talking about what JW learns about the year 1914 (and earlier on about 1874)

  Because JW adopted almost in total the explanation from Barbour about the return of Christ to 1874 and the end of the gentile times to 1914 I’m more interested in Barbour

  I know that John Aquila Brown inspirited Barbour. He token the basis in year 604 and counted the 2520 forward to 1917 (I know about what to say about the year 0)

  More specific is my questions why did Barbour mention the year 606 as the start? After my information nothing happened in 606. Why did Barbour at all change the date from 604 to 606? At least something happen in the year 604 as Nebukadnezars begin to act as king.

  This year (later change to 607) is still the basis of JW today. Around 1870 no doctrines of the Adventists - and Barbour special -was connected to the year 1914 in the same way as JW today are bounded to that year and have to say the year 607 is true because what really matter is the stay with the year 1914. That year is everything to the GB/FDS because without that year they will not at all exist!!!!

  So back to the questions why did Barbour go from 604 to 606 as the start of the gentile’s times (read the 2520 year period)?

  I attended the meeting tonight.....

  i went to the meeting tonight to check out things in the local congregation.

  this spiritual paradise is showing a few cracks.

  when i arrived about ten minutes before the meeting started, i felt like a ghost.

  Hallo SilentLambs

  Love your post. In some ways a sad story. But more it was a funny one. It’s make me smile and gave me a good laugh. As Farkel said to you be honest to you self and your consciences. That was matters and look at this experience with a smile. It tells the true about the others and you are able to look in the mirror - they are not. I can image your situation. I’m still in as elder mainly because of family reasons. My children and wife concern me a lot and I will not let them alone. My times haven’t come yet but I think it will come.

  Keep up the good sense. Try to go to some more meetings and sit in the front where all are able to see you. Put your hands up as many times as possible. Just to let the others have some opportunities to judge them self.

  does fear control the jws?.

  i notice amount several jw that a deep kind of fear are a long time partner in the jw person.

  this combine with a at long times experience of ignoring facts is why many stays even they see a lot of changes from the borg and sometimes even bad things .

  this is sort of a take-off of the "what should the wt do" thread.. i need to get together a board of directors and elect a president and officers.

  we need to figure out a doctrine, a manifesto, and a set of disciplinary rules.

  we need to figure out a way to fund our new movement.
