>...Berten, of which satanists do you refer to when you say "they love to see people suffer"...
The one's who are into ritualistic child abuse ...
wondering if anyone has seen it yet, and what the general consensus was around here.
i saw it a week ago this coming monday, overall i liked it, and didnt really see what the controvesy was, thought that the aramaic w/ english subtitles was a nice touch, cinematography was great, watching mary's griefmoved me a whole lot more than watching jesus get tortured, satan rocked visually, i especially enjoyed the fact that he was portrayed by a female, [that was not a comment to instigate the femenists on the board] though he had one too many hollywood moments, i really like the fact that jesus actually came across as arrogant, not the weakling he is always portrayed as during the easter season, he actually had some nads, and had something to say, that was cool, made him a lot more real in my eyes, after walking out of the theater though, i could only keep thinking to myself this was such a tragedy in the likes of homer, a hero bound for disaster, a legend told through the centuries, much like king arthur became a legend based on the events of a real man, im thinking the same must have happened with him, 80 flogs with bamboo into it i was thinking endorphines and adrenaline, yet it kept going into a second round, how he was able to walk after that and carry a cross, seemed a bit ludicrous, comments??

I found the following to be an interesting article about this movie:
(Which does not mean I agree with everything in it.It is just food for thought)
http://www.savethemales.ca/000351.html
They think it has a Satanic angle, and if you think it through they might have a reason,
because the emphasis during the whole movie is on pain and suffering.
And satanists love to see other people suffer, and now they have a 2 hour movie seeing pain inflicted upon their greatest enemy.
There is also some strange symbolism in it:
>"As the Roman soldiers are beating Jesus, the female Satan is suddenly seen gliding through the crowd opposite the Virgin Mary. Suddenly, >as she emerges from behind the body of a soldier, you can see that she is carrying a very white child. Since the movie has... juxtaposed >scenes of the Virgin Mary and of the female Satan, and since Satan is dressed in the same type of Virgin Mother outfit, this demonic scene >must be intended to depict a Virgin Mother - Divine Child scenario.... The baby suddenly turns to look upon Jesus' brutal beating with great >glee..."
I don't remember any passage in the bible about this...
after hearing the pro's and con's about the movie, i went to see it this afternoon.
i know we all have differing views, but i'm interested in knowing what impression it left you.
for me, i went in with a critical eye and i was emotionally detached from the movie.
>Well, it is recorded that Jesus did suffer terrible and excrutiating beatings and was then NAILED through the hands and feet to a hunk of wood >to let hang for hours to die a slow and painful death. Hey, try it sometime and lemme know what you think . . .
So What?
During the dark middle ages millions of people suffered *much* more and *longer* because they where accused
of witchcraft and other "crimes" that Jesus' *fanclub* did not like.
Just because it's some guy on a cross two thousand years ago we should be impressed and in awe?
this film is intense.
as you've read by now, the film depicts the last 12 hours in jesus' life.
everything you've heard about the graphic violence of this film is true.
>...I agree that Jesus died a horrible, painful death for all of us...
Not for me and lots of other non-christians.Like I said in another thread I am not going to see
Mr -Mad Max- Gibson's celluloid ego-trip,his catholic wet dream.
What "Passion" anyway? This Christ is being depicted by fundie-christians (Like Gibson)
as a sexless, penisless man, simply because they are all so hung up on all things sexual.
(He was not even married according to them.)
So they compensate -so to speak- by getting off on this suffering and pain of this Christ-figure,
and elevate it to something highly spiritual.Sorry guys and gals;I call it *sick*.
There's much better stuff out there like: "Life Of Brian","Last temptation","il Vangelo Secondo Matteo".
I prefer these instead of this SadoMasochistic SufferFest...

Gibson is becoming IMO more and more a religious nutcase,
I'm not going to support this religious hype and see his movie.
So what? This person named Christ,of which the existance is not even sure,
died on a cross, while before and after his time (And most probably during his time too)
other people suffered much more and longer.
By the way, this has nothing to do with the purported antisemitism of the story,
it's this religious madness that bothers me.We should all be in *awe*,according to Mr Mad Max Gibson.
Want to see a great movie about this person called Christ?
Then go see "Il Vangelo Secondo Matteo" by Pasolini (An atheist no less.)
No Fluff,No bombast,No Idolatry.Just the straight story:
wow!
thanks for all of your replies to my last topic!
since it was so popular i thought we could use another one.

>I was told AC/DC was "Anti-Christ/Devil's Child"
joannadandy:
>...AC/DC meant, After Christ/Devil Comes
You two have it completely wrong,
It simply means : "Alternating Current/Direct Current"
Sound's evil enough,does'nt it ?

i am still a newbee because i was a lurker for 6 years :) but in all those years i never saw one posting from a belgian ex-jw.
it would be so comforting to see somebody from my own area.
so i would like to address the belgians and ask them to reveal themselves to me.
I am in Oostende, and as far as I know the two of us might be the only Belgians...
