Radio4 (UK). Tonights show is all about 'Jehovah's Witnesses and the blood transfusion issue'.
20:00 Inside the Ethics Committee1/3. Every day, life or death decisions are being made in hospitals all over the country by clinical ethics committees. In this series, Vivienne Parry is joined by a panel of experts including health professionals, religious leaders, philosophers and lawyers.
Each week, a new case is put in front of the ethics committee and they examine personal testimonies from patients, relatives and medical staff. As the panel gradually unravels the evidence, they test the moral foundation of how decisions are made in hospitals every day.

Evidence for evolution, Installment 5: Lake Tanganyika, etc
by seattleniceguy inhey gang!

SNG, thanks for these great articles....
tijkmo,
How about a creator of the first basic organism which had an ability to evolve, and was then LEFT to evolve? To me, that would explain the apparent evolved links between all lifeforms, AND the (to me also) impossibility of evolution. Of course, the creation account in Genesis would have to be thrown out, but I never did believe the bible as God's word anyway.
Just my 2 cents.....

Yep, "Desperate Housewives" for me and the missus too. Except I usually miss it and end up downloading it a few episodes at a time to watch all at once.
Oh, and ER for the wife. She started watching it when a lot of people stopped watching after George Clooney had left (including her sister) and never misses it now.
EDIT: Aaaarrgghhh! How could I forget "Most Haunted". Although I will admit I mostly watch it now to see who Derek Acorah will be possessed by this week.

How many of the public go to the Public Talk?
by truthseeker inif you're still going to meetings, how many of the public actually go to the public talk?
or do you see the same old tired worn faces?.
in my hall, you never see a member of the public just come in and say, i'd like to stay and hear this talk.. was there ever a time when complete strangers would just come in, sit down and actually listen?.

I only ever saw one member of the public at the public talk. It was about 1990 and the guy (about 20 yrs old, new age looking) was walking past the hall as we were turning to walk up the drive. He must have noted our cool threads, because he asked where we were going, and when my mum told him he asked if he could come along. He explained that he was on his way to church (Latter-day Saints, I think it was).
Well, he sat through the public talk, (can't remember the subject) and then the Watchtower meeting, received the requisite love bombing and walked towards home with us. I left him at the corner of our house with mum trying to answer his questions on certain matters from the NWT (and struggling, I think). I was about 14 at the time and just wanted to get out of my meeting garb, but I wish now that I'd stayed and listened to them. The guy can't have found much to interest him anyway, cause we never saw him again.

Your JW Family: Reason With or `Live' With ?
by Jodo inpersonally, i've kept my thoughts on the "religion" to myself since i faded for fear of shunning.
now i'm starting to turn the other way and am considering taking some risks by talking doctrinal issues when occasions arise, but limiting myself to commenting on matters only on their instigation.
to me at least, that seems less confrontational......and most witnesses can't resist trying to encourage family members back to the fold, which means plenty of opportunities present themselves anyway.. what about you?

Yep, I couldn't believe it when I heard on the News this morning that the ad had been banned. It wasn't that bad at all, quite funny really. My 5yr old loved it.
As to trying the stuff, you really do "either love it or hate it". I can't stand the stuff but my sister eats jars of it
EDIT: Here's a link to view the ad El Kabong, (and anyone else not in the UK who's interested)

Were you invited to the Memorial?
by JH inhas anybody invited you to go to the memorial this year?
do you expect to be invited?.
usually elders come over a few days before to invite me, but they didn't come yet....
-
Jodo
All the witnesses in my family moved away (do I smell or somefin' ? ), so I don't get invited anymore....
wooHOO!!! (for not getting invited, that is)
There's one elder I see most days at my kid's school. We both say `hello', but no invite has been forthcoming. He does know I haven't set foot in the hall for over 10 years though
