So, the month of Abib is November? I'm not trying to call you on this, I really don't know what month that is...I can tell by the scriptures it's in a harvest month so you may really have something here. Still, the Witnesses really try to link up Thanksgiving with the U.S. government. ..but you may have an arguement if it's in the Bible.

Exodus 23:14-17 You CAN celebrate Thanksgiving. !!
by hubert init's right here, in the nwt bible.... .
exodus 23:14...."three times in the year, you are to celebrate a festival to me".. exodus 23:16...."also, the festival of harvest of the first ripe fruits of your labors, of what you sow in the field.
and the festival of ingathering at the outgoing of the year", when you gather in your labors from the field".. so, on the third thursday of november, we celebrate the "feast of the ingathering" by dedicating this day to giving thanks to god for the food and all the blessings we have enjoyed throughout the year.. it's right there in their bible, so why won't they celebrate it?

Lonewolf-thanks for the info. I'll look up the threads. Gita & Kwin- Well, what you guys are saying leans towards conspiracy theory but I wouldn't put anything past the WTS. ps--does Gumby have groupies??

Well, I'm not sure if this will be helpful to you but when my mom started pressuring me (around age 13) I used the "spiritual maturity defence." It goes like this-when you're pre-teen to teen you're too immature to make decisions. you're not allowed to date until you're mature enough. You're not allowed to drive until you're mature enough. You're not allowed to pair-up with another young witness during field service until you're mature enough. I was told that being baptised was a major life decision and at 11 years of age how is that mature enough? I wouldn't get into how "it might be a mistake" with your sister-in-law if she's a JW but I would point out to her that your niece might not be able to comprehend the power of baptism and it might be better for her to wait and have a better understanding of what she is doing.

I heard what you said Gumby, don't get excited. It's a very good point and a lot of people have brought up good points....wait a minute--I know what's going on here. You're trying to kill the thread aren't you!? Dammit, I won't let you do it! LoneWolf started talking about factions at the WT fighting and I WANT MORE.

Did anyone say anything unusual at the doors?
by badboy in.
i believe william schnell was once told that the only way to get light from a wt was to set fire to it!.
did anyone say anything of an usual matter to you while you were on the doors?.

Oh Candidly that hilarious. I remember going up to a door with a pioneer lady and this woman came to the door and said it was her mother's house and that we should never come back because her mother was Catholic and wasn't friendly to JWs. I was probably 8 at the time and all I knew was that Catholics were bad, so when she said this I gasped really loud and then I started crying. This lady at the door looked so sad for me and said she was sorry about her mom and patted my face.

Good point Dansk but I think in some ways I kinda care...mostly because I remember the Awake was easier to read as kid being forced to read that crap. It was kind of like Entertainment Weekly for JWs. I'm just thinking about the kids that'll be ex-witnesses someday Dansk. Don't want them to be too bored during their time "in." Just thinking about the kids...

Whahhh? LoneWolf, this is interesting. I heard they broke off into three different factions. I could be very wrong. But you hear that they are fighting? I mean, I would be surprised if this was true but I was surprised that the WT was selling land off in Brooklyn....

Quick Question
by Moridin ini remember reading on the board at least a year ago about a letter you could write to the congregation elders that would keep them from announcing a disfellowshipping or something to that affect.

This is nothing...I used to stay home on the final day before Christmas Break in order to avoid being in the library all day. What was really weird was back around 1986 when every other family at the KH my family attended started pulling their kids out of school to be "home schooled."
