devil--really, start reading on "the best of" section here. You'll see a lot of people here are or were in your position. Just learn as much as possible and possibly learn from others here on how to speak with your daughter or rather "plant a seed of doubt" in her. But no matter what let her know you're going to be there for her (even if that's hard for you)....I say this because there may be some time where the JWs disappear during her time of need and this may be the one time you can step in.

I'm from Seattle or originally Eastern Washington but raised in Seattle. Been going back and forth between San Francisco and Seattle for the past 2 and a half years....Currently in Mill Creek or Everett...I can't tell which is which.

cady- I think most of the people you listed have it in their profile where they're from or they are open with it...so no worries.

Gianni- Welcome to the forum. you'll see a lot of people are open about where they are from once you spend more time here, but your intentions are good.

i made the most awful mistake when i posted a comment about spelling and punctuation on the "bible research etc.." forum.

i learned that i can't just post comments about things when people are unaware of my sense of humour and my general nature.

i have spent the day in tears.

aw, I'm sorry. Just don't worry about it so much. You just posted this, which is good in order to clear the air.

Just know that sometimes, whether you want to or not, you might upset someone...this is the internet and when you don't have someone in front of you with the inflection in their voice and facial expressions it's really easy to misunderstand. As ozzie said, there are cultural differences and such that also come into play.

No worries. Everyone else I'm sure will get over it.

That's a nice article from someone who's obviously not using Jesus and the Bible for their own means. I'm speaking as an athiest but I still appreciate it when religious people see beyond what they've been taught they should believe or constantly talking about Jesus but never paying attention to what he was said to have taught.

Hey, no biggy about the post...just know people might give you a hard time if they don't get it. I didn't get it because there should have been more errors I think. But people not getting threads happens to the best of us. Just take a big breath and know you're an apostate no matter what--you can't get kicked out of this club.

My Family or Thiers?

i am new to this site and am seeking a little advice from some of your more seasoned veterans.

i met my girlfriend about 7 years ago, when we met we fell in love and 2 years later had a baby and we moved in together.

i brought with me 2 children from a previous marriage and she had one from a previous as well.

Nice one quango...I almost peed my pants reading that ask elders for a "balanced view" part. JWs are welcome here...they just need to accept that others don't have to agree with them.

Dondi- Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry for what you're going through and also what your girlfriend is going through. Aude gave some good links there are more if you click on the "best of" topic. A lot of people have been in your place, you're not alone. And trust me on this... elders and anyone your girlfriend is studying with will not give you a balanced view.

hello...this is my first posting.

i heard about this web page from a friend that has a boyfriend that is trying to live life out of the clutches of jw's for the last 2 years.

i have found that even though i haven't been involved with jw's for about 10 years, thier nails run deep.

Hi Niecy, welcome to the board.

I left with my family when I was around 15-16. It wasn't until 15 years later that I ended up here because I realized where my difficulties with people and family came from. I don't have the guilt with holidays but I can't say the same for the rest of my family. I don't ever expect to get to a type of "baby fresh" state but I know that being here, getting advice from other posters, a good history of the WT, and just knowing I'm not alone has helped.

It wasn't until this last year that I was actually able to tell long time friends how I was raised--yes, many of them don't understand even if I try to inform them but a couple don't know what it was like to be raised that way, they know a little bit about the JWs and are supportive.

PS- good to see another Washingtonian on the board

maybe i'm tired but........at the risk of seeming overly critical,there have been a number of posts on this forum where the spelling and punctuation have been abysmal.i have no problem with the occasional error but the subjects here tend to be somewhat more complicated and it makes it too much of an effort if i have to keep re-reading things to figure out what the missing word was or where the sentence ends.one academic said it was no big deal as even his professors were poor spellers!well i've got news for you guys, if you don't sharpen up your grammer i'm not even going to try to give you the courtesy of figuring out what you're talking about.
