Sexual Harassment

i thought i'd pose a question especially (but not exclusively) for the girls regarding sexual harassment.

what would you deem as unfitting behaviour?.

is it appropriate for a guy to ask if you are wearing any panties?

hmmm...interesting scenerio. I don't really think it's appropriate whether they're strangers or not...unless you know this person well and know that they are joking and they know that you know they are joking.

Appropriate recourse? Well, I get angry and might do something I'd regret because I'd be stooping as low as the person who was a stranger or wasn't joking....I'm might throw a punch or I might (if somewhat calm) isolate the person by telling everyone present what they did thereby making them a social leper. I don't know exactly what's appropriate when I'm mad.

okay, if anyone's seen my last post i'm doing a research paper on adventist groups.

right now i'm reading revelation since it's a big thing amongst adventists.

my own conclusion is that revelation had to do with the time it was written in.

Thank you all very much!! It's really good to see what you all think and thanks to everyone for the links and other materials to look up.

Does anyone have any insight as to why so many American Christians take Revelation literally? I'm a little confused about this. I mean I know the US has a somewhat heavy history with Christian fanatics (no offence to anyone) like the Pilgrims and that during times of great change like the 1800s there's usually a rise in fundamentalist type religions that believe the world is at an end....this might explain the origins of some American religions but doesn't explain why the religions last or spread into other countries. I haven't lived outside the US and all I can think is America has a long running romance with the apocalypse but this doesn't explain everything. Anybody have any comments on this?

i am new to forum.

my concerns with this group as with any group is the anger displayed to others.

i was emotionally abused for years for my association to the truth.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry for the troubles you've gone through and many on this forum can relate to what you've stated about your family. I don't think it was intentional on behalf of all the people that posted on the "pathetic jw website" thread to come off as mean spirited. In fact, in reading the thread many people stated that they felt for the young man.

When it comes to the forum status I think it's only a matter of going by what other forums go by. It can be handy sometimes to know how long a person has been on the forum...but to your point, I have to say that I don't think it's intentional to rank people to remind or be even somewhat similiar to the way JWs rank people.

I really hope you aren't discouraged from posting. Remember that the people on this forum are only human and we don't always agree with every opinion posted on this forum or the ways in which we display our opinions.

Thanks for posting that link. I have seen the North Seattle Bible Students link before. It's informative but I tend to think they're just as deeply into revisionist history as JWs are...I'm also leaning towards them being a small offshoot or spawn of the JWs. Do you know anything about them? Just wondering...

okay you guys here is my story.....it might be a lil' long winded, but please bear with me....it's interesting.... well i have been away for 8 years...i stopped when i was 17 and i'm 25 now.

it all started when i became a non baptized publisher at age 14. i was a very good speaker/reader.

the elders were waiting for me to get baptized and encouraged me to do so.

Okay, if anyone's seen my last post I'm doing a research paper on Adventist groups. Right now I'm reading Revelation since it's a big thing amongst Adventists. My own conclusion is that Revelation had to do with the time it was written in. What I'd like is to hear you guys and your opinions.

Where does Revelation stem from? What is the meaning, if any? Why do Adventist groups and many other churches use Revelation as a big part of their teachings? Why do you think so many in America believe in the "end times" according to Revelation?

I'm doing a paper on Adventist groups and although I haven't focused much so far on the Worldwide Church of God. I'm pretty sure it spawned from The Church of God-7th Day which spawned from 7th Day Adventist. Church of God -7th Day is also linked up as a main influence on Christain Identity which influenced Aryan Nation.

They obviousley didn't...not just the killings but the incest. That story in the My Book Of Bible Stories book always bothered me. Now anyone can correct me if I'm wrong but as I remember it in the book they have a picture of Cain being driven out and he's got a woman next to him--it's gotta be one of his sisters.....did I dream that picture? Anyway, I know the Earth needed to be populated but....did it have to be like that?

i know jw's don't celebrate birthdays or christmas, but how about new year's?

Biogret- I think Jellybean has a legitimate question and I don't think your wording is fair....nor the comparison to Jews. Most of the Jewish people I know wouldn't hold it against a person (even if it was a ham) -nor reject it.

So Jellybean, Mungo is right in saying JWs don't celebrate New Years or at least don't say they do. It might be wise to wait a couple days.
