My roommate has been going to Columbus, Ga for the past couple of years. 2 years ago we had a hurricane come through at that time and they had to stay up there an extra day because the roads were closed. The PO and his wife came home early before the storm hit and went to another convention in Mobile to make up what they missed.

Working in IT

if you work in it, what exactly do you do, and did you go to school for it?

Oh yea...I did go to school but I'm having to learn this new language by self study. I've already taken my first test to become a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist and I have one more to go. One thing I've learned is that you're going to always need to be updating your knowlege because things change so quickly. Our company pays for any learning that we want to do as long as it pertains to our jobs, which is a great benefit.

I'm a Sr. Software Developer for an insurance company. Most of our systems are written in house. I have been there almost 21 years...programming in RPG for an IBM AS400. I am now also programming in C# using visual studio. It's amazing how much things have changed over the years. When I was in school, there were no PCs around, just big midrange and mainframe computers.

JW roommate's neice wants to give her JW friend a bridal shower
by oppgirl63 inmy jw roommate's sister (not jw) called her yesterday to ask her if it was okay for her daughter to give her friend who is a jw a bridal shower.
my roommate said that it would be fine as long is it was in good taste.
i was wondering if it would really be okay since they are not jw's.

They are not related...just friends. Both of these young women are somewhat learning disabled. I took my roommate down to Florida so she could spend some time with her sister and I was there when my roommates sister was talking about it. Seems that the boy that the JW girl wanted to marry was not a JW but now he is studying so they are going to allow her to get married.

2 Elders Tell My Mom That She Should Take Me Off Her Health Care Assistance
by minimus inmy elderly mom had 2 visits from the elders.
she requested hospital liason help because she frequently has been having to go to the hospital, her blood count is low and doctors have told her that because she's a witness, there are certain procedures that make it difficult to attend to her without blood.
when the elders visited her , they recommended that because i "could" decide to give her blood, that i should not be the first person called with rights to give her life saving treatments.

The same thing happened to me a couple of months ago. My roommate has me on her directive (I'm not a JW..never was) and when one of the pioneer sisters at her KH found out I was not interested in studying or becoming a JW, she told my roommate that it would be good idea if she took me off her directive. My roommate told her no because she knows that I'm a person of my word and I'll carry out her wishes...not mine.
Another thing...I asked my roommate that if I ever let her make any medical decisions for me (I only have my Mother right now and one day I may be alone) and I needed blood, would she made sure I got it. She said that she would. Could she get in trouble being a baptized witness and allowing her non-JW roomate to receive a transfusion? I just don't want to get into a position where I could be ill and not able to make a decision for myself and all the people in her congregation would pressure her not to follow my wishes.
