A Few Good Men
by Mecurious? ini noticed while reading a few posts and the one about weight in particular that there is hardly ever anything positive said about the virtues of men.
so with the help of menweb.org and the good men project i have copied this precompiled list.
feel free to add to this list as you see fit:

i feel sad about it a lot because i don't believe i will never see him again.
i realised today that being raised a dub has closed my eyes to different views on death.. what do some of you believe happens after death??

I must pass this on to all of you.
On Nov.16 th. of this year I was standing with two friends, who were fishing, on the beach. It was getting fairly close to sundown and I was going to watch the sunset. One of my friends points to the sand in front of us and says, " What's that?" I went over to the water's edge and picked up a "flying fish". I'm sure you all have heard of or seen them. It was absolutely gorgeous with iridescent blues and greens, about seven inches long with about an eight inch wing spread. We looked at it briefly and then I placed it back in the water and it swam away. My friends left and I stayed on the beach. About a half hour after I released the fish I started thinking about Franchesca, who lived in New Orleans and who I haven't spoken to in about two months or so and I wanted to check on her and see how she was getting along. Her Mom answered the phone . . .and told me Franchesca had died that morning. Like I told a friend of mine, it felt as if a knife had pierced my heart. The words were almost incomprehensible.
Franchesca was twenty-five years old. She was a beautiful young dancer who I had gotten to know a couple years ago. The point of this is that I want to share with you the fact that I will always believe that the flying fish was the embodiment of Franchesca's spirit, and I make that statement for several reasons. She had a large blue and green butterfly tatooed on the back of her neck ( symbol of flight and freedom, like a flying fish ) flying fish travel in large schools, this one was a loner (why? ); of the thousands of miles of beach on the Gulf that the fish could have come ashore, it beached itself directly in front of my friends and me ( what are the chances of that? ) I was the one that picked it up; Franchesca and I shared some intimate details about our lives, things we never told anyone, we were spiritually very close; she lived her life dangerously, " flying low " as an aviator might say , like a flying fish skims the surface of the ocean; what made me phone her that night? ; and she was buried on my birthday.
I have always believed in God. And I believe that Franchesca wanted to let me know that she loved me and I should not be afraid of the dark. Life after death is as real as the beat of one's heart.

what is the deal with xmas?....
by flower inseriously i just dont understand the thought process behind what people do at xmas and the holiday season.
have you ever noticed how negative and stressed out people are?
i come into contact with a lot of people at work and as a job requirement i have to make small talk with them while taking care of their transactions and services.

It's human nature, people are just venting; if given a choice they wouldn't give up their tradition of Christmas and everything that it envolves for anything in the world.
May health and happiness fill all your lives.

My sincere condolences regarding your mother's death.
Jehovah's Witnesses are, at times, the most cruel people alive.

I'm really ticked off.
by Nancy Drake inthis is what the garbage men left behind today.
the dude comes in a truck and presses a button to lift the bin and empty into the truck.
everytime he does all this crap is left over from spilling out of the bin.. apparently, the city worker doesn't even have to get out of his cushy seat to put excess into the garbage truck.

Send the photo you have to your city or county supervisor and demand better service. Request an acknowledgement of your correspondence within two weeks. If you don't get one in that amount of time send everything on to the next highest level . . it'll take a while but sooner or later someone will do something; and keep copies of everything. Sounds like a pain ,however , being someones pain- in -the- butt can be fun.
Good luck,

Corporal punishment
by JustTickledPink inmy opinion is that jw's are into corporal punishment more than the general population.
maybe it's my imagination, maybe not.. do you remember being told "not to spare the rod" in disciplining children?
do you remember being that kid that got beat?.

WhyamIhere . . . good for you! You probably did more to help that little girl than you can imagine, hopefully her mom thought long and hard after you had a talk with her
I once saw a JW father pinch his four year old on the leg to make her stop squirming. I didn't do anything about it and I regret it to this day.

Is the Watchtower over extending itself?
by truthseeker in.
with the go ahead from the city, it looks like the society will be building more real estate.. but even with free labor, these projects still need capital investment.
they recently spent $50,000,000 on new man presses for several branches around the world.. they spend on average, about $79,000,000 a year on missionaries and other full time servants.. paper, ink and food cost money.. utilitiy bills cost money, especially in new york city.. computers cost money and so do telecommunications services.. even though they may have earned $1 billion for 2001, there surely can't be that much left over, even after slave labor is taken into consideration.. any thoughts on this?

If the WatchTower invests its assets in companies either nationally or internationally they undoubtedly have a "pile" ( of cash ) coming in every month ( in the form of interest ). I've always wondered where do they invest their money ? in " worldy" companies?

Yes, I not only remember him, I visited him when he was in jail, shortly after he was arrested. I knew the attorney who represented him at the time, gave him info I had about the Witnesses. When I went to see him ( William ) he wouldn't even speak to me . . .of course he had no idea who I was , just a guy who brought him a book to read . . . I wouldn't speak to a stranger either. My heart went out to the kid . . .sixteen years old.
