Can you ever see a time when Govt`s of this world will attempt to abolish all religions ?
by smiddy3 inwe are now in the 21st century of our common era with its insights into the potential of what can be achieved in the near future to benefit mankind for years to come .. the co-operation of governments around the world on so many levels has never been better than it is today and it is at least encouraging to see this .. whether it has to do with the climate , the environment ,food production ,safe water for all ,and the better health for all in the near future, and in the future space exploration.
however the problem today is still religion !
in its many extreme forms that divides us in no ways that politics divide us .. politicians learn how to compromise and work with their opponents for the greater good ,whereas religions don`t.. religions divide humans like no politicians ever did well not to the extremes religions will go anyway.. is their going to come a time in history when governments politicians say enough is enough and try attempt to abolish religion ?.

Interesting situations for all as there are some common elements. For one we are able to recognize BS when we see it. For me it was back in 1986 after reading Ray's book. My employer was a JW also, infact he was the city overseer and had read the book also. He invited the CO to discuss the info he had just read and invited me to sit in and listen. I was in no way prepared to deal with what happened next. The CO threatened us that if we even discussed what we read or agreed with what we read then we would be df'd immediately! You cannot believe what went through my mind as I drove home from work. I had just been threatened with df'g for just reading something. Keep in mind this is 1986, no internet or forums. I told my wife what had happened and she got real mad at me for reading the book. I'm thinking this is straight out of "1984" novel. I had to watch what I said and measure my words at all times. I was PIMO from that time forward. After about 5 years I no longer went to the meetings and just faded away on my own. I am still nice to all the members of the congregation and keep a very low profile.
Interesting that my years at Bethel had prepared me for how to handle the situation as I learned to keep low and non-confrontational. I knew how the WT handled things at Bethel.

1975—Were You Affected By What 1975 Was Supposed to Bring?
by minimus infor years , we were told to wait until 1975!.
the end was coming and we better be ready—or else!.
were you around during this “momentous “ time??

1975............Oh how I remember. I was at Bethel at the time, Watchtower Farm as a press operator and in charge of printing the Awake magazine at the time. Had been for 3 years. I'll never forget the time I was given the work order to print 10,000 extra copies of a particular Awake to fill an order from a congregation in Texas. Yikes! I thought these people are all in. To this day I wonder what happened to all the mag's in this order. Must have been real embarrassing having to dispose all the mags later.
Although I keep my mouth shut, I get sick when I hear dubs talk about how the WTBS never encouraged the brothers 1975 was it. The people don't know I was operating the press '73-'76 and proof read the mags over and over as the press was running. I know what was said and written!!!

Work at bethel.
by asp59 inhello, just wonder if there are some ex bethelites here.
what is the expectation of the quality of the work one does in bethel?

Not sure now but when I was at Bethel in the 70's you could be kicked out if you were a slacker. A real lazy person. I only saw this on a couple of occasions in my four years. Most were given real shitty jobs that would encourage you to leave. If the overseers of the department complained enough the Bethel office would call the individual in and tell the individual to pack your bags!

Bethelites Vow Of Poverty
by pale.emperor informer governing body assistant howie tran has shared his bethel vow of poverty contract.
it reads rather culty.
i think clause number 9 is particularly worrying...to adhere to, not the bible alone, but also the watchtower literature and the governing body.
-
mann377
This vow of poverty agreement sounds like an "Adhesion contract". What if a Bethelite were to inherit money from a relative? Would the no income rule come into force and the individual would have to turn over the inheritance to the org? Yikes!

"New Light" on "New Light"
by new boy init’s just the “new light” is much better and brighter than the old light.
1965: more “new light.” these men will be resurrected, for sure.. 1988: jehovah apparently changed his mind once again.
the light gets brighter.

The light got so bright that I had to start wearing sun glasses to the meeting!

When I was at Bethel both the shipping department and bulk wrapping department knew where all the kingdom halls were to send the literature too. This was as far back as the 1960's, 70's etc.

Has anyone noticed at the convention that there is special reserved seating? The convention that I attended (to keep peace in the family) had seating in the suites of the arena. All arenas, stadiums etc. have these suites or boxes for high rollers during sporting events. Some friends of mine were in this suite and I was told you have to have a ticket to get in. In fact you can not get on the elevator to this location unless you have a ticket. I was turned away from the elevator because I did not have a ticket (I was testing this out). Does anyone else on the forum know about this? It has been going on for some time. How do you get a ticket? Money? The people that I know that had tickets were not high up in the org. The shear fact that you do not have access to visit friends unless you have a ticket is outrageous!! It would be great if the news media showed this about a local convention.
