did you have to make a major change in your hair style, or hair length when you joined the jw's?.
they hinted that i needed a hair cut when i joined.
i guess my hair was a little too long then.
I found that most issues with hair styles were totally dependent on how many assholes were on the local BOE. For instance in one Congregation I attended the elders didn't want any young brothers to wear hairstyles that were commonly referred to as 'fades'. I had to let my hair grow out a bit and wear a lining all the way around while I attended that KH to stop being harassed. A fade is equivalent to a crew cut I believe and it was always interesting to see pictures of young GB members in the Proclaimers pub wearing that exact same hairstyle back in the day. Ignorant hypocrites.
republicans and democrats have distracted us with unending battles between haves and have-nots for decades.
over the same period, they have bankrupted the country.
perhaps that terror, not currency traders or al-qaeda, may explain the odd market decline after a tax cut that was supposed to make stocks soar.
None of that money stuff matters anyway. As long as we have this hyper military, the government won't give a shit who we owe. Also, think about how much those other countries depend on the interest payments our government makes on all that debt. The republicans know this. It's the new Mercantilism.
i'm sure this has been posted before but i really enjoyed it.. http://www.digitalronin.f2s.com/politicalcompass/questionnaire.pl?page=1.
i think like the dalai lama...lol!
economic left/right: -3.62. authoritarian/libertarian: -5.33.
I though I was a bit more to the right as far as the economy was concerned. I guess I'm not a young black Republican afterall. LOL !Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -4.12
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -1.38
that is, daing myself.
i have been reading coc, and am just disgusted right now.
how can my name be attached to this man-made cult?
Jesika,
I pretty much share your sister's sentiments. If anything they owe me for all the time wasted and lost under false pretenses. I really feel for the Pioneers who've left though. They really need toconsider suing their crooked asses.
so here i was this evening, reading the old familiar matthew 24 with the kids before bedtime, but i was reading out of our very nice contemporary parallel new testament, specifically the message version, and i had this sudden realization: jesus didn't give us a really complicated, mysterious prophecy that had different types and antitypes -- he was simply continuing his original message (love your neighbor, love god).
remember verse 12 about the love of the many cooling off?
the verse right after that talks about enduring to the end.
Ultimately the comparison between the wise and the foolish is that the foolish only went half way. They were not interested in everything they needed to complete the picture; everything that God gave them. And in the end, they needed it ALL.
Nope, ultimately the difference between the wise and the foolish is that the wise were prepared and the foolish were not. Keep it simple and use whatever gifts God gives you to stay prepared for what you know is coming.
So why discourage someone from pursuing ALL? Why insist that looking into prophecy or chronology or other things in the Bible is something we shouldn't do or needn't do?
....."It does not belong to you to get knowledge of the times or seasons which the Father has placed in his own jurisdiction;....
Why discourage interest in something that's in the Bible. It doesn't mean I don't give money to the homeless or don't love my fellowman. I just think we need to do BOTH. Doing one is not good enough.
Well nobody is discouraging interest in things that are the Bible, however some of those things are admittedly not as important as others. They can be distracting, divisive, and lead to many empty debates, foolish questionings and fights about things we will never be completely sure about until they happen. Even the jws believe that often God doesn't reveal the complete details of prophesy until they have already been fulfilled. Which is pretty interesting in and of itself.
I don't think you will find anywhere in the Bible were prophesy is said to be a foundation for anything. I tend to look at it as an extra not an essential. For instance in some circumstances it would be vital to listen prophecy. I think of whne Jerusalem was last destroyed, any who didn't heed the prophecy to leave when they saw the city surrounded and the Roman armies standing in a place it ought not to be, probably suffered badly if they were still in the city some 4 yrs later when it was finally destroyed. However, when is there a time or circumstance where we wouldn't be mindful of loving God or our fellowman?. A Christian who was obedient in leaving Jerusalem but was unloving towards his fellowman, though saved from that imminent disaster, would still face the wrath of his Lord later on would he not?If you have prophecy but ignore love, you won't make it. If you love your fellowman and ignore prophecy, you won't make it either. You must do BOTH. You must have oil in your lamps AND in your receptacles to make it.

And God said: "The world is wicked! I'm going to destroy it. I want my blessed people to be at the docks at 9:30 p.m. sharp. We'll load from 9:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. but the boat must leave by 10:00 p.m. in order to avoid the castrophe! Don't be late!"9:59 p.m. ALL ABOARD!
:Hey wait! What about "Nice Lady!" The one who helps the homeless and the sick. The one that gives all her time to the poor?
:What? She must be on board already, look for her!
:She's not here, I checked!
:What?!!!! Well, didn't we tell her what time to be here?
:Yes.
:Didn't I say 9:30 p.m., we leave at 10?
:Yes.
:Well, where is she? Doesn't she care enough to follow my instructions?
:I think she really cares, but you know tonight she had a special function for the homeless and I think she didn't finish feeding everybody.
:The homeless? Most of whom are on the boat? Those homeless?
:Yes. But...well, I'm sure she'll be here. Can't we just hold the boat up for a short while until she arrives?
:If we hold the boat up, all the people on board will die, including her. Wouldn't it be better to save these and lose her than for everyone to die?
:You're right. Everyone knew what to do. I guess she had her own priorities.
Jesus: Hey! Let's get going! If Sweet Lady wasn't so wrapped up into what SHE wanted to do instead of caring about what God commands then she would have been here early. She is getting her reward right now. Plus, she's not that smart. Why is she fooling around trying to feed the homeless who are going to die anyway because they didn't care enough either to be here on time? It's too bad, but I'm sorry. There's a time for helping the homeless and there is a time for getting on the boat, and she should have figured that out.
:So, um, you're saying she's not that smart?
Jesus: No. I'm saying she's not true "kingdom material" as nice as she is. Kingdom material would have been on the boat at 9:29.
:Right.
This illustration might fit if the discussion were about obeying an expressed command of God as opposed to taking care of ....whomever. In a situation like that one would tend to pay attention to whatever God tells them I suppose. I don't think that obeying expressed commands of God is the issue here. It is simply what does being prepared mean as both sides seem to agree that preparation is the import of the parables being discussed.
what say you on the following news article?.
http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/news/nation/5954814.htmwoman sues to hide face in license photo.
mike schneider.
I'm sure there are times where it is not proper for a woman to wear a veil. For instance, I'd doubt Allah would mind if she took it off to take her shower. The purpose of a driver's license is for identification and to indicate driver competency as far as far as the DMV can measure it. It is crucial for purposes of identification that ppl not be allowed to wear hats and other things that can alter their appearance.
i heard about this on the news earlier, i only caught the tail end of the report.
what i dont understand is why she did it.
why she was only charged with child endangerment and not attempted murder?
The mother had to be on some type of drug or something. I find this really hard to believe.
