  Actually, this means that no place the MILITARY has a presence will be safe.

  Exactly Yeru, I'm pretty sure the entire city of Baghdad has a military presence throughout. It will be impossible to have an attack of the magnitude they are proposing without significant civilian casualties. That, under these circumstances, is unacceptable, since the expressed purpose of this military action is disarming Saddam and removing him from power. That should not have to include an unprecedented use of weaponry.

  bush promised a "kinder, gentler, u.s."?

  nice to see his son follow in his footsteps.... i know what most supporters of the upcoming war are going to say, that 'the world changed after 9-11'...i don't believe that.

  Well it could very well have been loans. Aid is sometimes given in that form. I don't remember, exactly what all the details were but given the genral circumstances I think that what was given was probably aid.

  BIG Difference, we're not INTENTIONALLY targeting civilians. We're targeting "hard" targets. Some civilians will be killed. That's an unfortuante part of war. Put the blame on Saddam for not complying with the UN Resolution.

  That's b.s. Yeru. If the Armed Forces do this (which they definately don't have to do!) we will have proved ourselves as being no different than the regime we're trying to bring down. Saddam Hussein used poisoned gas to bring about the mass slaughter of dissidents, no doubt to Shock and Awe any who might resist him. What's the difference between that and 400-1000 missles raining down on a populated area. It's reckless and barbaric.

  think it is odd that people think there is something wrong with the US looking out for their own self interests. Is not that what we all do as individuals? We are concerned with our own self interest.

  I agree Out. I was just mentioning this as a contrast to how most ppl show the US as some type of merciful benefactor, when in fact, many times when helping nations the US is only helping itself. I guess you can call it profit protecting by proxy. You're right there is nothing wrong with looking out for ones own interests.

  Shock and awe?? Why not call it what it will be -- terror. So who are the terrorists? But then, no civilians are ever killed by these smart missiles, are they?

  This is barbaric. There are ppl.....men, women and children living in that city!

  We American generosity has seldom been selfless. Often the government bails out other countries when problems arise via natural disasters, economic crises etc....because they have a potential adverse effect on our own far-flung interests. For instance, some years ago when the Mexican economy was on the verge of collapse, Congress acted to shore it up via a multi-billion dollar aid package mainly to avert a potential mass wave of starving, out of work Mexicans that could have caused a big problem on our borders.

  Well like it really mattered anyway.

  The President has already mobilized close to 150,000 troops and reservists are being activated weekly. All i can say is that I hope the idiot is just trying to bluff and they don't have a really big surprise waiting for us when we attack.

  They made tools and worked together in groups, but their ability to adapt to a wider, changing world did not develope as it did in our case. They probably died out when we entered their domain and competed with us for scarce resources.

  I've also read that their is evidence that they cared for their elderly and infirm and were the first to bury their dead.
