Intellectual starvation among JWs

wanted to write another topic entirely, but after quite some thinking i thought that one particular topic should be addressed.

especially, for people still feeling confused.

we often wonder why so many dubs looks like zombies, why it is hard to make them see the real truth about the truth, why cant they discuss any topic in depth without resorting to reasoning book or other wtbs literature, why it is that they are so easily manipulated, why it is that they are filled with apostate state of mind fears (fearing to question anything), why, why, why?

Oh my this is such a great thread!

I totally can relate to this comment:

From early childhood I was in love with the mysteries of language, the magic carpet ride of imagination, the heady worlds revealed in books. I attribute my sanity having survived the bizzare teachings of jw to the fact that I ignored their assinine warnings about what not to read. I WISH more of them could see what is being done to their minds!!!

I think reading, having a voracious appetite for the written word other than the drivel I was fed from the kingdumb hall, was the main thing that saved my brain.

The Society had been wrong about the cross and Christmas? That's the first I'd heard that one.

Well then it's time you did some research. I suggest using www.google.com and entering "jehovah's witnesses and the cross" and see what you come up with.

Scientists and evolution

the wts says evolution didnt happen.

i told my wife that majority of the scientific community believes in evolution.

i think this is true but does anyone know where i can get some hard statistics on what percentage of scientists believe in evolution?

It was funny though, my wife and I were out back, on the deck, kids playing in the pool, the elder just walks around and starts coming up the deck stairs

That is so rude, even if you told him he could visit you, you would think he would have the common courtesy to knock or ring before coming on to your property. If you couldnt hear him, he should have called out before coming back. I'm funny like that. Some elders always struck me as being very arrogant.

Yes other religious organisations use the name but not as much as the jws. Here's another page to research about the name:

So, I guess, right now, I need help with "combating" the fact that they are true because they use the name Jehovah, and how important that is?

So some research in the name jehovah, it's quite fascinating and I think will but your fears to rest.

well its seems my wife has hit a standstill with the dubs.

some of you may know my situation, but i guess its all relative anyway.

Wow, so her faith is based in fear? That's so sad. Being raised in the organisation I got so tired of the fear. It made any kind of faith I had in God seem so shallow, I was only worried about my own butt, because I knew I could never measure up. I hated field service, the meetings and the book study was a bore, and there was no way I was going to sign up for the ministry school. I was doomed. I felt like if this was what I had to do for salvation and ignore whatever gifts I had to do the drudge work of the society, then so be it, I'm birdfood at armageddon.

But all these years later I found out that the society is wrong. I dont know what to tell your wife other than don't be scared and do some independant research away from the jws and the elders.

Oh and I wouldn't meet with that elder again. But that's just me, I dont trust elders.
