This is my 2nd mothers day since fading from the JW's. Before that I'd celebrated twice when my kids were small. I'm loving it but I'm not sure they like the extra expense!!!!! I don't think my boys talk to each other either- I've now got 2 Bridget Jones DVDs!!!!

Can anyone help?
by bagpuss inafter nearly 2 years away from meetings it seems that the local jws have decided that i need 'spiritual help' and my house has become a jw magnet, all offering to be the ones to give me that help.. while they left me alone i was happy to leave them to their beliefs, but now i feel its time to make my feelings known.. i thought i'd start with the un scandal, but as many here have found they will almost certainly use the library card excuse.
i remember being told from the platform that we should never become involved with a political org' even if it was just for non-political reasons eg using facilities, clubs and bars.. while i clearly remember hearing this it would be useful to have something in black and white to support it.

True,I don't have to justify myself, but I do feel just as strongly that I don't have to hide what I know. These people come to my door telling me they have the truth. Well I don't believe that and I want them to know why, and as for being shunned that wouldn't worry me at all. I'm in the lucky position of having no loved ones in the org, so nothing would change except the knocks at the door would stop!!!!
Maybe the easy way is to keep quiet but its getting harder to do and I don't think I want to keep quiet and be plesant anymore.
Sorry if I'm sounding a bit bolshy but this cat has decided that its time to bite back!!!!

What is their excuse?
by bagpuss ini've recently been looking at examples of how the wts misquote sources to support their theories, often omitting large portions of a quote.. one that made me angry was a quote in the reasoning book on page 89 under the subject of cross.
here is the quote, the omitted parts highlighted.. "the greek word for cross, stauros, properly signified a stake, an upright pole, or a piece of paling, on which anything might be hung, or which might be used in impaling (fencing in) a piece of ground.
but a modification was introduced as the dominion and usages of rome extended themselves through greek speaking countries.

Try www.geocities.com/Athens/Parthenon/7831/index.html
That should take you to a page called JWs a critical analysis (fingers crossed-oops I forgot thats not allowed!!!

The info is from a website www.geocities.com
I actually found it by searching google for should you believe the trinity. There are lots more misquotes in that too!

I've recently been looking at examples of how the WTS misquote sources to support their theories, often omitting large portions of a quote.
One that made me angry was a quote in the reasoning book on page 89 under the subject of cross. Here is the quote, the omitted parts highlighted.
Even amongst the Romans, the crux (from which the word cross is derived) appears to have been originally an upright pole, and always remained the more prominent part. But from the time that it began to be used as an instrument of punishment, a traverse piece of wood was commonly added....about the period of the Gospel Age, crucifixion was usually accomplished by suspending the criminal on a cross piece of wood."
I think you will agree that the full quote supports the cross and NOT the stake.
Have any of you shown quotes like this to JWs and if so what was their response?
For any active JWs reading this, does it not make you doubt other quotes used by the WTS, especially when you see ............in the middle of a sentence?

Are you still "hurt" from your JW experience?
by JH in.
i was just wondering if you still feel hurt or some kind of interior pain from your jw days or is it all passed and you have no more feelings towards this organization.... i still feel "hurt" and let down... .
afterall, they were friends, and now they just don't care anymore.

Only one thing still hurts me about my experience.
For 8 years I gave an elderly sister lifts to all the meetings, hospital appts, doctors appts etc. I thought we were friends. At the time I stopped going to meetings I was suffering badly with depression. It wasn't a conscious decision to stop, it was health related. Not once did that sister contact me to see if I was o.k or if I needed help. After a year and a half it still hurts and makes my husband very angry, after all it was his car, diesel etc that she was taking advantage of.
The fact that no one bothered to contact me doesn't surprise me anymore,I'd always realised the lack of love in my cong was a real problem, but that one sisters failiure to contact me even once really hurts.

Do you hate dressing up?
by Nosferatu ini can't stand wearing suits for anything.
i wore them so much while i was a jw that i prefer to never wear another one as long as i live.
hell, i wore jeans at my wedding!.

Since leaving I've practically lived in trousers or jeans. I do wear skirts now and then but I'm sure i should be counselled about the length!

Your post made me feel so sad.
Last April I became a Grandma for the first time. I was totally amazed by the love I felt for this little baby, and that has only grown over the months. I can honestly say that I would kill to protect that child and nothing would stop me having contact with him.
As a JW I never really gave a lot of thought to shunning as it never really affected me that closely. Looking at your situation I am appalled that I could ever have considered such action justified. I feel that I need to apologize to you for ever going along with it, however passively.
I am also glad that I am now no part of an organization that encourages what can only be labelled a form of child abuse.
