so, i'm sitting here sorting out my recycling since tomorrow is trash day, and i remembered something that happened years ago that gave me a chuckle.. it was a sunday botchtower study and the topic was things that we should be doing to prepare for life in the new system.
even as a child, i didn't answer from the magazine and they never knew just what i was going to say; they would usually not let me hold the mic myself just for that reason... .
i had been learning about recycling to preserve our natural resources in school (6th grade, i was 10) and had my comment ready to go:.
Our biggest contribution to the tree population, IMO, is that we no longer belong to a cult that wastes untold amounts of resources printing worthless books and magazines. That is probably the reason why JWs don't give a crap about saving trees - they probably mow down several square miles of forest every year to print those publications.
Never looked at recycling quite that way Scully. So what you're saying is that we're ALL earth huggers by simply being apostate. LOL

this is how you want it because "body you" is kind of a moron.. fact 2: all living things have two primary desires: to stay alive, and to have offspring.. this is a basic, defining biological fact.

FWIW, I immediately enjoyed your original post in this thread. I've always been a Dave Barry fan, and your writing style reminded me a lot of him. I understood it was "funnin" and completely tongue in cheek.
For many years, as a young girl, I LOVED the bad boys. I dated 'em all. Why? Because they were exciting, they stretched my limits by encouraging me to do things I wouldn't otherwise, they liked like runnin' life at full speed and that was the opposite of what I'd always experienced. But it didn't take long for me to realize that most bad boys weren't good for me. They were either addicts, abusers, or cheaters. And I kept going back for more. Why? Because after so many years of it, it's what I was used to. It was like an old pair of jeans. It was comfortable and familiar and I knew what to expect...even when I didn't like the jeans. I needed a new pair of jeans desperately. But I couldn't part with them. Finally, one day I just realized the jeans just didn't fit anymore. I outgrew them. I realized that I actually was complete on my own. My butt looked great even without the jeans. So they got tossed.
Several years ago, a nice pair of Dockers found me. And my world has been completely different.

I hate to burst peoples bubble but almost all recycling actually ends up depleting more of your natural resources than it saves. Rule of thumb if money can be made by recycling then and only then does it benefit the earth to recycling. Like for Ex: metals can be sold for money and this saves the earth because it take less of the natural resources than it takes to make new mentals and thus there is a reward of money to incourage people to recycle. But for paper products and glass after the cost of gas and the chemicals used to recycle the paper it actually takes more from the earth to recycle the paper and glass than if the they were not recycled. Truthfully most earth huggers don't have a clue!!! and the only benefit is the feeling you get when you thank you are helping the earth by recycling but actually you are doing more harm to the earth. Also people say we are running out of room to dump garbage this is not true either.

my dad is one such person, love him to bits, but he really gives me the sh*ts with his poor me act grrrr.
i just get tired of always being the one who calls, who stays in contact, who visits etc.
Some days I wish my father were dead just so I don't have to answer any questions about whether I have one or not. Lately, I say he's dead.
I completely understand. I've thought many times it'd be easier if he were dead. I wouldn't have to explain why I haven't talked to him but once in a blue moon.

The father/daughter relationship is a very special one. I'm glad to see that Dad is taking a bit of initiative. I put my foot down several years ago and told my folks that I wasn't going to contact them anymore since it just seemed to be a one-way street. In about 12 years, I called all the time, they never called. When they realized I meant it, they started calling and emailing. More the last three years than in the 12 before that! In fact, the last two weeks I've emailed back and forth with my dad about 6 times. Short, sweet, fluffy stuff, but so far, nobody's in tears...which is a feat in itself! LOL

what i dont understand is why some of you take out your frustrations on god.
Dont you think God would want unity for his people though?
Of course. Anyone even on this earth wants unity. But I'm sure God is smart enough to understand that unity is not something that's going to happen with imperfect people. God had a "chosen people" in Biblical days - the Israelites. Eventually, they lost favor with Jehovah. If you believe the JWs have God's favor, isn't it possible that it's something that they could lose like the Israelites? It's obvious some of the things they are asking of their people are NOT from God.
I talk about God informaly when i can. Maybe the people in the bible werent "publishers" but they sure did go around teaching people about God and his kingdom.
You are correct. There were no publishers back then and they did teach about God's kingdom. So why are you letting a publisher card holding you back from doing the same? A publisher is just a title. When you're a child of God, who needs a title?

I wanted to be a publisher so i could atleast tell about Gods Kingdom but i dont know if thats possible. They wont let me.
If I've read the bible correctly, John the Baptist wasn't a publisher either. Neither was Peter, Paul, Mark, Luke, or John. If you're trying to live the life of a Christian and share your faith, where in the bible does it say there has to be a 3 x 5 card with your name on it at a Kingdom Hall? If you want to speak to others about your faith, do it. God isn't waiting for you to become a publisher. But this manmade organization might be. Who are they to decide if you want to talk to others about God? According to the Bible, do you have to have their permission?
i have been invited to my nephews engagement party.

One Bridezilla I used to know used the value of the gifts that were received at the Engagement Party and Bridal Shower to "rank" people on her Wedding Reception guest list. The better (ie, more expensive) the gift, the better your chances were of getting invited to the Wedding Reception. Her rationale was "If I'm going to spend $200/person on this wedding, then the gifts I receive better at least allow me to break even."

its two years since i last attended a meeting or thought of myself as a jw.
despite the prophesys of doom and gloom for those who leave the org i have gained lots and lost nothing.. i have much more time to spend with my husband which has led to our relationship improving fantastically.. i have a better relationship with my children who stopped going to meetings when they were teenagers.. i have become much closer to my family (i've just returned from yorkshire from my great nephews 1st birthday party.
my confidence has grown dramatically as i no longer view myself as worthless.. the guilt of not doing enough has gone.. i now have real friends.. the list goes on, but i really would like to hear what you've gained or hope to gain by leaving the borg.
