Involved in “saving” my brother, which I still hope to do, as well as get involved making the forum(s) better.I can't speak for WLG, but I know I started out on this board for healing and research benefits. But much of my healing has been accomplished. So now I'm here for friendship and helping others. I think it's the natural process for recovering from the abuses we've experienced and/or witnessed. Much like "sponsors" in a 12-step program. The "old-timers" help the newbies with the things they've learned. And in the meantime, you strengthen friendships with those that you've met along the way. What do you mean by this wander?

For DEFD, discussing my "bad" avatar
by wanderlustguy inok, defd brings up a point that has been mentioned to me for a second time now, so i ask the question, should i change my avatar?.
when i first came here, and figured out how much i was really lied to, it was as simple as a guy flipping off the society.. .
to those who don't know, it is johnny cash.

Chasing rainbows - how I got engaged in Paris
by Abaddon ini took kate, my girlfriend of between the last five and ten years (depending how you define girlfriend) to paris this weekend and proposed.
i had a couple of scenarios mapped out, but was playing it by ear as to the right moment.. on saturday night when we sat down to eat at a restaurant the waiter asked me if i "had got engaged to the lady yet", and then said "if not, i will".
i'm sure he does it to every foreign couple where the women isn't wearing a ring but i could not believe it that one .

I've had several avatars since I joined this board. It always reflected the mood of whatever phase of my recovery I was experiencing. If you feel your avatar still reflects what you're feeling, then why take it down? Don't let what defd or anyone else says influence you needlessly. But I will say it does seem that lately you've grown a lot and that anger isn't the most prevalent expression of your life anymore. Maybe it is time for a more peaceful avatar, just to reflect where you are now. Just a thought...

Dear Apostates
by wanderlustguy inwell well well, kicking the puppy was fun.
for those of you unfamiliar with the term, it is bashing and bitching about the org, which i was happy to do.
also with it i found an intense sense of a need to help, and to get involved.

WLG,
Then I look around at my life, it is a myriad of undone things, memories to be created for my children, a career to be built for me, a dream home in the mountains that I want to live in and share with someone, and new friends to meet and enjoy. Why am I typing this, hell I don’t know. Like I said, for some reason it just seems right to say.
Thank you for saying it. This board is a recovery board. We hear so many stories of pain and burdens, that it's nice to remember that there IS a light at the end of the tunnel. Recovery IS possible. A happy well-adjusted life is ours for the taking. The question is, are we willing to work to get to that point? I'm glad to see you have. You should be proud of yourself!

And then 5 months later, the big day came. A few of you were kind enough to be present as my "family" since my parents and grandparents didn't come. (Parents JW, grandparents health issues.) Valis, CSG, SixofNine, Megadude, COMF, were all there. It was a beautiful October Saturday, about 85 degrees and sunny with a nice little breeze. It was also during butterfly migration season, so during the outdoor ceremony, many guests had little butterflies flying all around them. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day to get married. Valis took a ton of pictures and posted them on his website, which I go to every year to look at and remember our special day.

I really have married the most amazing man I know! Thanks for letting me reminisce.

if you love pit bulls or think you might

My ex-boyfriend had a dog that was half pit half bassett hound. From the neck up he was pit (ears not cropped) and from the neck down he was bassett. He was ferocious when it came to other dogs, strong as an ox, but was the darn laziest pussycat otherwise. Anytime we'd walk with him, strangers would always look at him and say, "What is that?" LOL!
I loved that dog! I think I missed him more than my ex.

Tattoo you?
by mrsjones5 inok, i've been watching the show "inked" on a&e and i think it's a really cool show about tattoo artists in las vegas.
and lately i've been thinking about getting a tattoo somewhere on my body, possiblely my lower back.
my sister has one there and i think it's really cool.

I have a small tattoo on my lower back - 3 sq inches or so? - a Japanese kanji symbol that means "Born Again". Although I am a BA Christian, it had nothing to do with that. I got it during a time in my life where I felt like I'd been given a second chance. It is black outlined with shades of blue and aqua and white. It took about 15 minutes and cost about $100. I LOVE my tattoo - but warning - they ARE addictive! I've wanted another one ever since, but I can't seem to find the right design.
I think I'll get my nose pierced for my next birthday. Anyone have any piercings?
I got my nose pierced early this summer for my birthday. Tiny little diamond stud on the left nostril. Love that too! No regrets. After a navel piercing about 14 years ago that tooks YEARS to heal, my nostril piercing is already healed. I was pretty surprised.

maybe he didn't make a move on you because he found you unattractive.
LOL!
Why is it that some straight men think that every gay guy is out to "get" them? I don't understand it. I have lesbian friends, but I know they aren't attracted to me just because I'm a girl. So egotistical to think that.
