My parents and grandparents always talked about knowing the very second they heard about JFK dying. That they could even remember what they were wearing. I always thought that was strange and almost didn't believe them. Until the two most shocking pieces of news I remember getting. The first was, (don't laugh!), when Princess Diana died. I remember it was Labor Day weekend and I was wearing my Garfield pajamas, late at night at my ex-in-laws home. The second was 9/11. I was home sick and Neil called me and woke me up to tell me a little plane had just flown into the first tower. I was wearing my purple plaid pajamas. I turned the tele on in time to see the second plane crash. I was devastated and terrified that day. Not just a candle in the wind, but thousands of candles in the wind.

Wifely Submission?!
by freedomlover inokay, what i want to know is honestly how many of you guys out there were actually attracted to the jw's because of the wifely submission thing?
and girls, how many of you actually had issues with the submission thing even when in the org.
?

Well, I'll be the black sheep and go against the tide here. I don't have an issue with the love, honor, obey thing. But then again, I don't have a jerk for a husband that would ever expect me to cower to him. To me a good marriage means you submit to each other. It's not just for the wife. When it's a two way street, submission is really one of the things that has made my marriage stronger, not weaker.

A Big THANK YOU
by Gretchen956 inyesterday my brother got an envelope, mailed in oklahoma, no return address, with two one-hundred dollar bills inside.
he thought perhaps it was because i mentioned his fire here on this list and someone mailed him this anonymously.
with it he was able to get a cell phone and time on it (go phone) and now we have a way to be in touch.. whoever sent this, bless you!

Sherry,
It doesn't surprise me in the least that your brother got that envelope. This is an amazing group of people here.
When Bubbamar lost her New Orleans home (and everything in it!) to Katrina, we had tons of people come out of the woodwork (specifically on this board) with help for her. We had so much stacked in my living room just from the Dallasites, that you could barely walk through. And that doesn't even count all the cash donations sent. Most of which were anonymous!!! Cash, supplies, clothing, home necessities to start over. It still blows me away to think about the generosity of this community. "They will know them by their love"? The WTS ain't got nothin' on this group!!!
Love,

Bullying/Harrasement-Please advise
by doodle-v inour child goes to an after school child care provide by the local y. it's right at her elementary school, so after class she just goes there to another class room with the other kids and they play games, do homework etc, till we pick her up after work.
she's gone there for two years and liked it.
she has lots of friends at school and gets along with just about everyone.

I was bully bait when I was in high school. As a freshman, there were three senior girls that hated me for some reason. To this day, I have no idea why. But all three of them would pick on me (and many others) and twice even tossed me around the locker room in gym class. Once, as I was walking to school in the rain, they drove by me and purposely hit a HUGE mud puddle by the sidewalk. I got drenched in spite of my umbrella. I saw them laughing in the back window as they drove on past. I sat in soaking wet clothes all day.
I'm a firm believer that what goes around comes around. Call it divine intervention, karma, or just Life...they will get theirs someday. But I will say one thing...I think it's great advice for your daughter to get into a martial arts program. Knowing you, you'll not let her abuse the art, but it will give her a confidence that might not be attractive to bullies. I wished I'd had those skills when I was younger.
Good luck!

Corroded Sparkplug
by Sparkplug intoday i sat and really realized how absolutely hopeless i feel.
i have had so many things happen in my life this year and a huge percentage of it has been items i have to face or tackle.
i have prioritized and organized myself to death and i am so very overwhelmed.

I'm sorry you're feeling overwhelmed. The holiday season has a tendency to do that to me. Even if I don't have a lot to do, just the drive of life while in the midst of all the "holly jolly Christmas" crap can be frustrating.
You're in my thoughts!

Trouble For Richie
by RichieRich inas many of you know, i have a myspace.com account.. apparently, while i was out last night, someone called my mother and informed her of my activities on myspace.
my mother called and asked me for my login info, and was shocked to see me, and around 40 witnesses in my area having active profiles.
contents of these profile ranged from a few pictures to downright self-incrimination.

If there is any solace to found in this, Rich, perhaps it is in the possibility that after you are gone and the congregation has no use for your Mom she will begin to see the reality behind the smokescreen of Jah.
This is a good point!

Alzheimers is really an evil disease. My husband's great aunt has it and it's terrible to see her go through what she's going through. It terrifies me to see a connection to diabetes. The numbers of those with diabetes has steadily increased over the last two decades. My father in law has it.
My dear, sweet mother-in-law spends every Saturday morning at a local Alzheimers nursing home with her two therapy dogs. Those sweet people just love those dogs and love my MIL for bringing them. She says the times she's visited without the dogs, they don't respond to her well at all. They're angry, don't recognize her, throw things at her. But if she has a dog with her, they seem to become somewhat childlike. The animals seem to bring out a wonderful part of their personality.

Another interlude
by onacruse inin the course of my "life story" posts, the life stories of others have, or are, coming, to an end.. first, and foremost, the wife of my youth is now at her deathbed.
she suffered many pains because of my own inabilities to relate to other people.. how i wish i could touch her hand and express my feelings to her...but the constraints of life prevent me from so doing.. i wish her nothing less than the best and safest and most painless passage to whatever that awaits her.. .
and, don whiteman has died.. now that he has died, i will name his name.. he was an integral part of my bethel expectations.
