  Paradise - I Think I'll Pass........

  one thing that has always kinda ticked me off with the society depiction of paradise, is the completely bland, devoid of personality, stepford wives-ish look given to paradise pics in the publications over the years.

  peeps walkin' around smilin' for no reason, no attention given to a cultivation of technology, the arts, space exploration.

  there never seemed to be any point to paradise.

  I didn't have an issue with eternity. I rather liked the idea because it meant NO FIELD SERVICE! That was probably appealing to many others as well. But spending the rest of my life learning to cook, read music, mathematics (I'm bad and slow at it now!), sciences and so forth was actually appealing. I wouldn't feel rushed to do anything. The idea of not being rushed still appeals to me.

  But I did always wonder how they figured these things out from the Bible:

  The going back to the Hebrew language.
  The resurrected would not be able to have children.
  Armageddon survivors would be allowed to conceive.
  That we would be vegeterians.
  There would be no electronics or modern day appliances.
  No space exploration.

  Now that I stop and think about it, it seems so idiotic. I can't believe I fell for this crap.

  it seems like it's a badge of spirituality or something.

  you go to a congregation bbq or something, and there's always at least three brothers sitting around endlessly playing the same few chords over and over again.

  theres little else in life that is more ludicrous than a pompous jw.. correction.

  there is little else in life that is more ludicrous than a pompous male jw.

  especially one of the elder variety, one of those guys what tell people what to do.. think about it, it just isnt natural for a man to be the head of the house .

  Some things that annoy me about the WTS

  i'm still currently a jw myself and i'm serving as a minsterial servant in a limited capacity.

  (a few weeks ago i was vocal about the doubts i've had and the elders made the decision to allow me to stay on as a ms but without giving talks) .

  1. recently as in the last few years i've been paying more attention to the various members in the congregation and i've observed some interesting things.

  I'm so sorry for the frustrations you must be having. I know it's enough to make you scream in the middle of the Watchtower study!

  I must say that I am glad you are here and I am glad you are willing to keep an open mind to what the bible says. You can see it is sooo different from so many WTS teachings. I feel for ya hon! It's been 11 years since I've been out and I still get frustrated and annoyed when I talk to my parents and when I hear stories like yours. But I have since learned how fulfilling life is without so many rules and restrictions that the Bible has not mentioned. The brothers in so many congregations are much like the Pharisees. They live by the letter of the laws they create, which is totally different from living by the spirit of the law as Christ tried to do. Hang in there! I'll be thinking of ya!

  i have been "fooling around" with brother charlie for a couple months.

  going to his apartment and spending the night with him.

  i am so in love with him, i would do anything for him, anything at all.

  I don't doubt you when he says what he says. I'm sure he does love you. I'm sure he was a virgin. I'm sure he does care for you. Truly I do not doubt it. But you are also right about another thing. This religion has brainwashed him. It has a hold of his heart and his mind and he is addicted to it the same way you are addicted to him. He will never leave it. I know you love him and I am positive you are a good person. But you deserve more. Think about a few questions:

  Does it bother you that he has to sneak around with you behind everyone's back?

  When you two are together do you do anything other than snuggle or have sex?

  Do you ever go out in public together, like dinner or movies or shopping? If not, why?

  Have you talked about your common goals? What you want out of life?

  I ask these questions because I have been in your shoes. I've learned one very important lesson and I learned it the hard way. Love does not make the world go 'round. Love alone does not make a good relationship. There is another ingredient that people do not stop to think about. That is...

  COMMITTMENT.

  Charlie may love you, but his actions show he is not committed to you, or he wouldn't shamefully be hiding you. I know it hurts sweetie. All of us wish we could make it go away for you. But you will have to take care of yourself. You will have to focus on what's best for you. Remember we are here to listen and give advice. We want you to be happy.

  The BESTEST present ever! (NOT)

  after reading a few threads regarding the upcoming christmas season, i thought i'd post a funny story, and ask you to add to it.. if you've ever received a wacky present, or one you had to pretend that you liked, please post it.. about 5 years ago, when i first started celebrating christmas with hubby, i got a real shocker of a present.

  a deep fryer.. now, hubby was *very* proud of himself.

  you see, about three months prior to christmas we were going through costco (warehouse type store) when i noticed they had a nice little deep fryer.

  I truly don't think that the women posting on this thread have ungrateful hearts. I think the complaint is that that some of the men in our lives have put absolutely no thought whatsoever into gifts they give. I do believe it's the thought that counts, but when it looks like your gift has been purchased at Wal-Mart or the local gas station on Christmas Eve, it's pretty obvious there was NO thought involved. I know that when I give gifts for holidays or birthdays, I typically agonize for weeks over the "perfect" gift. I like putting a lot of thought into gifts and typically the agonizing is worth it. If I truly don't know what to get someone, I ask them. I'd rather lose a little of the surprise element and get them something they truly want!

  I wouldn't really worry too much about it until it happens. Seriously, I know it's stressful thinking about getting married, but he could have bought you earrings for all you know. Have you and Philip talked about getting married? Do you have the same values and future goals? How long have you been dating?

  As for doubts, I wouldn't worry about them too much right now. It sounds like your relationship is fairly new...you still have plenty of time to discover what's best for you. If he's as wonderful as you say, he'll understand (especially with your JW history!) that time is an ally for any large decision like this!
