alot of shelters are over loaded with clothing donations and are no longer taking them.
i stopped by the big town (in mesquite) that is being used as a temp.
shelter and they are only taking baby clothes.

i know many people who live down south louisiana , were raised to be on guard for hurricanes.
i thought i heard on cnn that 80% did evacuate out.
i can imagine trying to get the most valuable things in a car , get my money out of the bank, gas the car up, put water and food in case traffic is jammed, clothes , medicine, pets, contacting family..all of that would be exasperating if some of it was not ready to go.. every year we have tornadoes, flooding, but the ice storms are what we are afraid up my way nw louisiana.

If we could just get a lot of us to donate $5 or $10 dollars (or more if you can afford it), then that will help Marla and Dee tremendously. If everyone can sacrifice just a little, it will make a huge difference collectively! They are really two of the sweetest girls you could meet!
I just spent a little time with her and Dee and some of their other displaced friends over coffee this afternoon. It's difficult as I'm sure you can imagine, but between the teary moments, there is laughter and fun stories that are being shared. Good memories and just silly fluff talk. They need that and all of our collective prayers, good thoughts, well wishes, positive vibes...whatever your way of sharing good flowing energy. They are still working on a plan of whether or not to stay in Dallas, but for the moment I think they're just trying to enjoy the holiday weekend. They have friends here that are providing shelter and encouraging company, but funds are still needed. Please contribute if you can...even if it's just a little.

after talking to many of the evacuees from new orleans and watching all of the local coverage , interviews of surviors ,they are just thankful to be alive.
they are also in deep despair over family members who they can not find, they don't know if they are alive or dead.
not to mention the ones they know are gone.. there are so many are just heartbroken that the home they knew is gone forever .
So many I hear are not going back, I am sure it is too soon for them to know for sure what to do.
Considering how little is probably left, do you blame them? I know I'd feel completely overwhelmed and horrified. God help and bless everyone!

on thursday night, joe nichols played at the state fair here.
after the concert he came into the beer tent with his band members and security guards to drink.
i got to meet him and he autographed my bra!

at one point friday, the evacuation was interrupted briefly when school buses rolled up so some 700 guests and employees from the hyatt hotel could move to the head of the evacuation line much to the amazement of those who had been crammed in the stinking superdome since last sunday.. how does this work?
From what I understand, yes, this is for real. Yesterday, a young couple with their young (probably now motherless) neice, was brought to Dallas. The lady had said they had to surround their children, especially the young girls, in order to protect them. They could never leave them alone, nor could they both sleep at the same time. They slept in shifts in order for someone to be awake to protect the children.What a sad indictment of society. How can that be descibed as "civilisation"?
It's not Simon. It's not. But the people that were committing such horrible acts are just a few hundred in a city of several hundred thousand. Doesn't make it any less horrible, but at least it helps put it in perpective of the city as a whole. We do not excuse their behavior because of the circumstances, in fact, we abhor their behavior that much more. It is a sad indictment to mankind...not just New Orleans or America.

she is very "liberal" and doesn't agree with all the dogma.
I think she's beginning to think that JW's may have been god's people at one time, but they may not have his approval anymore.
This is something I'm saving to save for my parents some day. Great point to consider from their perspective.

I think some are patriotic. Where it goes wrong is when it becomes nationalism. Too often people confuse the two and nationalistic fervour is portrayed as being patriotic (which it isn't) and people who don't go along told that they are not patriotic.
