I think New Roads is positioned between Alexandria and Baton Rouge. I've finally heard from some family of evacuees that are in Dallas. The family is from New Roads. They want to come get this family and take them back home with them. There are good stories coming out of this thing.

OMG! I'm so relieved....
by under74 ini found out friday morning that 2 of my cousins took a trip to new orleans last week without telling my aunt....but they are adults so.... anyway, they're known to take off to have fun (usually to gamble) so i didn't think much about it last weekend but time went on and my aunt got really worried.
my older brother started calling around to mutual friends and found out that they went to new orleans last week.
so to make a long story short my aunt just called saying my cousins are in someplace called new roads.

Since it is obvious all religion is wrong why do so many believe?
by jwfacts inany religion that claims it is the only correct one is obviously wrong.
by it's arrogance it becomes mutually exclusive of any other religion.
when one steps back they can see that the contradiction of one religion over the others is a proof that they all must be wrong.

Very few religions insist that adherents believe 100% of the stated doctrines. Thus, there is room for one to have social and religious support without giving one's mind over totally to a particular cult.
What the JWs have told us about Christendom is NOT always true. Of course, just like the JWs, there are bad apples in every barrel. But almost every church (religion) I've been to, has expressed they realize they cannot ask people to adhere/believe 100%. Rarely is there someone that believes 100% of the religion's doctrine. And if they don't, they aren't shunned for it.

Why Violence in New Orleans?
by MegaDude init will be a while before everything shakes out about why things went to hell in a handbasket in new orleans but here's one opinion from an article on the net.. ------------------------------------------------------------.
it has taken four long days for state and federal officials to figure out how to deal with the disaster in new orleans.
the man-made disaster is the welfare state.

The drug problem is mind blowing , even in the small town I was from, you would be shocked at the amount of people white and black on drugs. This is a town that doesnt even have a red light, just a caution light at a crossing. One store, the post office,,,,,,,,that is it,,,very tiny. The ones on drugs so bad, are already poor, many on welfare or living with someone who gets welfare , so how do they afford their habits? They steal, they deal, whatever it takes to get their fix. Crack, crystal whatever you call it is one of the hardest drugs to get off of. The success rate of those who have been hooked on these drugs is very low.
This is something I've thought of too. When you're seriously addicted to crack, cocaine, or crystal meth...who knows what you'll be like when you don't get your fix for 4 or 5 days. Mix that with an environment with no police control, no food, no water, no knowledge of family friends and home...I'm sure some of us would act out in the same way.

I'm not accusing anyone, but I think a person has a much more legitimate cause for complaint if he or she is actively trying to help the situation firsthand. Numerous churches throughout the southern US are sending buses with supplies, bringing back refugees. Help is needed in all towns sorting clothes and preparing shelters/food for the people coming. We can all do things to help. Now is not the time to be bitching and moaning, now is the time for action. When everyone is safe and accounted for, then we can begin bitching and moaning.
Yes. Yes. Yes. I agree!!!

Our New Orleans is gone.
by LyinEyes inafter talking to many of the evacuees from new orleans and watching all of the local coverage , interviews of surviors ,they are just thankful to be alive.
they are also in deep despair over family members who they can not find, they don't know if they are alive or dead.
not to mention the ones they know are gone.. there are so many are just heartbroken that the home they knew is gone forever .

He also told me that he is hearing tons of horror stories from so many of his friends that are now in Baton Rouge. He said the stories you hear are too graphic to tell on TV. These are first hand accounts . He said the news can not show all what they have seen, peoples comments and interviews are either cut off or edited, because they just can't put it on TV.
Unfortunately, these are the accounts I've heard as well...especially those that fled from the Superdome and Convention Hall. I doubt we have even seen the tip of the iceberg on this one.

After Katrina, do you now have an emergency plan?
by LyinEyes ini know many people who live down south louisiana , were raised to be on guard for hurricanes.
i thought i heard on cnn that 80% did evacuate out.
i can imagine trying to get the most valuable things in a car , get my money out of the bank, gas the car up, put water and food in case traffic is jammed, clothes , medicine, pets, contacting family..all of that would be exasperating if some of it was not ready to go.. every year we have tornadoes, flooding, but the ice storms are what we are afraid up my way nw louisiana.

Else,
Anyone live within one or two hundred miles of Dallas who would be willing to offer me a bed or couch in an emergency?
You know where we live. I think we're a little closer than that, but I don't know if that's what you're looking for.
Mulan,
We have a gas water heater, so never run out of hot water, and a gas range.
We do too. I didn't think about that.

You are more than welcome. We wouldn't have things here for you any other way. Except maybe your own bed. We are thrilled you chose Dallas to come for safety. We are honored to have you here! Please know that Dallas is pretty much the South's apostate capital. There are many of us here. Should you decide to put down stakes here, you would have a pretty good network of friends. Yes, I understand it's not home. But it could become a lovely one should you decide to stay. You've found a lovely coffee shop already. Dallas has awesome restaurants. I have a fabulous therapist I'd love to recommend to you, should you want one. We don't have UNO, but UTD is right up the street from our house. My best friend is New Student Life Coordinator (or some fun title like that) and I'm sure she'd be happy to help you get your bearings there or help get resources at your hands. If that doesn't work, we could always play UNO around the coffee table with some of your fabulous Columbian coffee. (Sorry...throwing in a lame joke to make you smile. ) If you miss New Orleans muggy weather, we can accomodate ya' there too.
I will tell the Rodgers what you said. There was another couple (the Burrows) that helped pitch in I think, so I will make sure to send your message to them both. The makeup goodies are from Arrowstar. Just little things to make you feel pretty and whole again.
There are many of us here for you my friends. We will do whatever we can to make you feel at home. Temporarily or otherwise.
Love ya girl,
Andi
