a friend of mind went to elder school recently and i convoy the following for him: .
the co asked him previously if he could assist with a demonstration showing the superiority of wtbts education to university education.
my friend holds a few masters' degrees and will be starting a phd program soon so the co thought he would be an excellent candidate to demonstrate the superiority of wtbts education, but there was a little problem my friend he said no.
Nic- actually he has posted four to six times recently, he joined a few weeks ago but has been lurking for some time. He just did not want to post this but was ok with me posting for him

Robdar- I actually lived with my friend longer than our schooling experience and that is where we experienced many of the JW underground experiences with different in crowds, but yes I did not receive a liberal arts degreee.
My intent in speaking about the brother that got a masters degree in ceramics is not to belittle that degree since I am in favor of individuals pursuing education in whatever they love. This brother may have not been able to get the high paying job as someone receiving a degree in computer science, engineering, business administration, etc........... but if this is what he enjoys, the more power to him. Hopefully he would strive to be the best in his field. The issue once againg like in many other situation is the WT, how disengenouis can they be about their higher education bashing.
I would respect this religion a great lot more in they didn't speak out of both ends of their mouths.

He could not in good faith speak in front of individuals and tell them the WTBTS education was superior because their organization skills are not superior to that of what universities teach since many of the skills he posses in his administrative job were learned in college and therefore that translated to the success he has in his secular job. He also mentioned the organizational skills he has leaned in the truth are different and serve their need but he felt they were not superior to those of an university.
He told the CO that he was not going to bash higher education and the CO told him that that was not what he wanted but instead to point out how the organization skills he has learned in the truth are better than university education and they don't have the dangers that an university education have such as binge drinking, sex, drugs....
My friend told the CO that with regards to those dangers that statistically speaking that affects most demographics the same including witnesses that don’t go to school, because we have seen and been involved with some witnesses including us that have been involved in similar behavior.
The CO thank him and they ended their conversation, but a few minutes later the PO called him and asked if he would reconsider, he said that if it involved the same dialogue he would not, and so he didn’t.
So at the Elder school the individual that took the part my friend turned down was a real kiss up to the organization. He stated that even with a master’s degree he was not prepared to tackle the business world and that the public speaking and organization skills he acquired in the truth once he converted have really helped him succeed. The speaker from Bethel asked him what percentage he believed of his university education has helped him succeed in the business world and he said 10%. The brother continued and stated his year in college were completely useless and never found a job in the area he got his degrees in. Many chuckled and then the Speaker stated “You see brother’s school helped to be 10% ready for the real world aren’t we fortunate to be taught by Jehovah’s ORG. “
At the end of the school my buddy went up to the interviewee and told him he enjoyed his part and was interested to know what he received his bachelors and master degree in.
He said:
Bachelors- Liberal Arts
Master’s- Ceramic Arts with an interest in teaching pottery.
My buddy asked why he did not pursue a career in teaching pottery the interviewee said that he wanted to move back home and the only job opportunities were in Liberal Art’s Colleges on the East Coast and he wanted to live in a Metropolitan area so job opportunities were limited and very competitive.
My buddy felt the interview was a “set up” and the fact that there was no mention of his degrees was misleading.
After the session ended, my buddy purposely went out of his way to tell the Bethel Rep. he enjoyed the program (little did the Bethel Rep. know my buddy was being sarcastic) specifically about education. The Bethel Rep. pointed out that there are too many dangers in going to college and Bethel Service best serves our children.
I lived in a dorm for many years going to college with my buddy, and we saw more drinking, drugs, and sexual misconduct at witness parties than at the dorms. At least the people in the dorms did not drink on Friday night and preach on Saturday morning.
this is a movement which has been growing slowly but steadily among young people in spanish and portuguese speaking congregations in the united states.
basically it is a movement created by winesses who believe in much of the teachings of the organization, but do not believe in the authority of the wts, or any other body.
they also do not believe in disfellowshiping, and believe that every decision should be a personal conscience matter.
I am not sure what to think of this.
When many investigate their doubts it is very difficult to stay a witness. I live in Los Angeles and the only movement I have seen is with friends of mine some still witnesses in good standing with privileges that are open minded about where JW are heading. But others upon investigating seldom attend meetings anymore including me.
I grew up in a Spanish congregation and I find it very unlikely that a movement would start their, as a kid we always joked that elders were so strict that we should just be a catholic school. Most of the JW in Spanish are ex very passionate loud Catholics.
With regards to their being a imminent witch hunt I don't think that will happen at least not here, I have friends and acquaintance that debate trinity doctrines at churches and have written books positive and negative of witnesses and they have not being dFed.
Does it even matter!
Many of the witness kids I know and are close to act the same a world kids, they drink heavy, are promiscuous and many times only confess if found out, experiment with drugs. Some of the elders and MS I know talk about JWs not having absolute truth so occasionally when we get together in the weekends and have a few beers we openly talk about wacky JW doctrines and were we are headed, some of the subjects we have talked about includes how we disregard WT policy with regards blow jobs, higher education, what if the end is not around the corner. I really don't belief many of the teachings of JW but it is interesting when you talk with an open minded elder and ms they’ll tell you that many of our doctrines are on shaky grounds, don’t belief a global flood occurred, sigh every time a new member of the GB is announced and is in his 50s. But they stay because they have too much invested in the TRUTH.

Corbin is a great guy; he believes in many of the JW teachings but has his reservations on a few. The trinity doctrine is one in particular that has always tickled his fancy.
Good luck to you Corbin on your debate and to Greg as well if he is part of it too.

this was brought up briefly in another thread maybe a week ago.
here's the part of the book that i liked:.

What letter is he refering to? What does it say?
i am interested to know how many of you during co visit gave him the money hand shake.
i for one gave money through a hand shake to the co on his last day of his visit.
i remember my parents and other family members although being poor, giving the co a nice amount of money with the golden hand shake or the sneeky sports coat pocket drop.

I remember my parents and other family members although being poor, giving the CO a nice amount of money with the golden hand shake or the sneeky sports coat pocket drop. One of my uncles although a witness, went to meetings only as a creature of habit (not really believing or able to defend) and would give a good dime when the CO visited, I think he felt as this being the way he contributed to Jahs organization.
P.S. Do the COs declare this money on their taxes? How much do you think they get?
a lot of people are working hard to help those whove been affected.
the results are not acceptable, he said.
im heading down there right now.
If national political democrats are going to blame the republican president, they should first start off by blaming the democratic governor of the state and the democratic mayor. The mayor could taken a page out of NY mayor Giuliani emergency contingency plan. And if you want to start asking the pentagon for money from their coffers lets also ask for money from the coffers (which far exceed the defense budget) of the wasteful abused social services that make many poor and minorities dependant on hand outs (government) to assist them.
