Paul, the eminent Greek philosophy student was just being "clever" to shame his largely ignorant opponents into frightened silence when he wrote that. That is why Paul, the "eminent" Greek philosopy student started off his letter with Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. You know there is oh so much fear and shame in grace and peace. Nowhere in the letter does he indicated that he is trying to frighten them into silence. If Paul was trying to be the intimidating philosopher that you claim then he did an oh so good job of communicating that by saying in 1:20 "Where is the philosopher of this age?"... "Has God not made foolish the wisdom of this world?" I am sure that you have a refutation for everything that does not fit into your lifestyle and appease the god you have created in your mind (that also approves of your lifestyle). I suggest you reread the letter to the Corinthians after you have read and understood the basic principles of hermaneutics.

If God And His Thoughts Are Perfect - How Did Humans & Satan Become Evil?
by Latin assassin from Manhattan inthis question may not make too much sense.
if a man creates a computer, using the best parts and software design with the intent of analyzing data accurately and reliably, would he also design it with the ability or freedom to 'crash' or spread viruses to other computers if it chose to?
if a man trains a dog with the intent of being a family pet, would he also give it the knowledge to kill humans or other animals?

1 Corinthians 1 19 For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate." [1]
20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. This is the reason why nobody can seem to answer the question. You try and try and try to come up with a solution through your worldly wisdom and of course you won't find one and so you claim " after all, we didn't bring evil to the world - he did!!!" I think that maybe you should stop examining this subject through the lens of the wisdom of man and start using the lens of the wisdom of God. It seems somehow, that you have exalted your own [false] logic above the thoughts and ways of God.

Genesis 1:31 says that "God saw all that he had made and it was very good". It does not say perfect. When God created man with a free will that gives man a choice between two or more objects. Adam and Eve were amoral when they were created - meaning that they did not have an inclination to choose good over it opposite (evil) or evil over good.
To say that God is responsible for evil does not have much merit. Example: I run a red light and Tbone another car. The accident is obviously my fault because I ran the red light. I claim in my defense, that if the other driver would not have got out of bed that morning, I would never have hit him. This defense holds no merit at all because I ran the red light. There would have been no accident had I ran the red light, just like there would not have been "evil" if Adam and Eve would not have disobeyed the direct command of God (the red light).

Jesus vs. Adam-Your Thoughts Are Needed
by Mister Biggs inthis goes out to anyone (jw's and x-jw's).. i was just wondering last night about how jw's teach that jesus was the last adam; how he balanced the scales because he was perfect; how only the sacrifice of a perfect human body can redeem mankind from its sinful state.
(of course, other religion's may teach these things, too.
however, i've only lived my life as a jw so i can't speak on behalf of other faith's).. anyway, jesus came to earth and passed the tests that satan threw at him.

We even have a Bible (for those of us that believe in the Bible). Adam and Eve had nothing to go by.
If you believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God then Adam and Eve did have something to go by.... the Word of God. Unlike even us (in the sense of the Bible), God spoke directly toward Adam. Wouldn't you think that this would be something to go by?

Change in WTS doctrine under way!
by biblexaminer ina "significant re-adjustment" in watchtower dicta is in the works.
is it important?
if you do want to know, then take the time to read the following information, for doctrine is the motivation behind everything that is "watchtower", and recent happenings within watchtower-world shed light on the future course of the great ship watchtower.. [hr].

This thread got me reading more of Matthew 24 and I found another contradiction (right word?) in what JW doctrine says and what the Bible says.
From what I understand about the organization, I gather that they believe that Jesus returned to earth in 1914 invisibly. Here is what Matthew 24:23-27 says about and "invisible" Jesus (these are the words of Christ himself")
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.Sorry for getting off the topic a bit...

faith in a community
by gotcha inis it possible to exercise your faith without joining a religion?...i asked the same question to my professor in theology and her response was...as human beings we have this nature of being social so it's always in a community that you could exercise your faith..there's not such a thing as "individualistic" faith because it is within a community that your faith can grow...what do u think?
thanks.

Here is my take on this topic-
Heb 10:24-25
24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-- and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
(NIV)I don't think this scripture give a command but it gives great wisdom. You will find that people that meet together and are part of a community are stronger (in faith) then those that do not. And the kicker for me is "and all the more as you see the day approaching".

Why?
by rocket7001 ini am thinking about becoming a jehovas witness.
i saw on this one show where two jws got in a car accident and needed blood but wouldn't take it.
a jw pastor, i think got up and said that our creator would be greatly offended by this practice.

As for Jehovah Witnesses "slowly changing their view on blood", this is not true. They have always stood for the same things.
-CRBLOSI find it very interesting and ignorant of you to say that the JWs have always stood for the same things. This is not true! In fact, find out when the JWs originally banned the use of blood products. You will not find that it was at it's conception.....
Many other things change very subtly in this organization. They make changes over time to make it seem less obvious.

History of JW's
by bjd4jc ini've been doing some research on the jw organization lately and i have found something that i think is very interesting and that everyone ought to think about.
in studying, i have read (in a few different sources) that charles russel (sp?
) founded the organization out of rebellion.

Where exactly have you come to this understanding of Russell? The watchtower or other sources?

What exactly are you referring to as "Da Book". I believe this is the first mention of this term on this posting.

Questions for the JW Experts on WTS Structure
by Kathy ini understand that "annointed ones" are no longer appointed to the governing body, because most are no longer alive.
so now, what criteria are used to appoint members to the governing body?.
what is the "chain of command" in the society from the governing body to the average jw living next door?
-
bjd4jc
I expect that the Society will again change its structure
How many times has this happened? Does anyone have a running count?

Why is it that you say I am a fool? If you are not researching things for yourself I would say that YOU are the fool by blindly believing what some organization tells you. That to me is foolishness as well as ignorance.
