Catholics on Big Love
by undercover inandre's thread on jws vs catholics reminded me for some reason of last night's episode of big love.. did anyone else relate to nikki's response to her son playing with a cross?
it was as if she was possessed by a jw demon or sumthin.
and her whole attitude toward the catholic faith reminded me of how jws react.

Ground Zero
by Sunspot insitting around a campfire last weekend, a few of us were discussing what is "going on" on the rebuilding or the construction of what is being built at ground zero in nyc.. we all agreed that we see nothing on the news....we see nothing in magazines....we hear nothing at all about the progress (or lack of) in whatever was chosen to be built there!
it is as if this never happened.....at least to those of us far beyond walking past the site to actually see what is going on!
(being 400 miles away from nyc!).

Hi Sunspot,
Anytime I walk by it during the day, there's work going on, but it looks the same. It is a long process, but it is happening. They took a while going up from sratch, so I expect the cleanup and rebuild to be immense in time and processes.
Also, if you know much about construction projects, I am sure you are aware that nothing gets done on time, especially in NY, so who really knows how long it will be before we see the finished project.
I might be somewhere with one of the architects this weekend and chat about it.

If you don't learn from someone else's experience you will from your own
by zagor inlast three or so months were probably the worst days of my life far exceeding any bullshit ive been through because of wtbs, where one thing came after another without a warning.
while i dont want to cry here about it i just want to say to everyone to not just feel for the members of your close families, children in particular, but to show it to them as well.
as someone once said what you feel only matters to you.

Ok, I read and it just added to the concern I've been feeling.
Btw, your words are how I feel inside, everyday. Time is so crucial, particularly with children. Even with that, though, I have to honestly admit a twinge of 'ignorance' still exists for me than for a few others I know in different life situations than myself. That 'ignorance' is at the lowest amount possible, short of being in their shoes. Not 'bad', it just 'is'. I hope what I wrote makes sense, and you see where I'm coming from.

Has your brain been re-wired with the "F" word?
by Gregor ini learned an interesting fact from my father's doctor when he was being treated for a stroke.
mom had mentioned that even though dad couldn't speak well enough to ask for a glass of water he could clearly say, "goddammit".
the dr. explained that epithets are from a different part of the brain and this area had not been affected by the stroke.. i found this very interesting.

or ill say "just pretend im your wife, im sure you know how ignore her, so you can ignore me too."
LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll have to borrow that one!!
7 years ago, my crazy, dumba## mother in law called herself trying to come after me for telling her off and daring to drop an F bomb in a sentence defending myself. Cursing is so against her culture, so I was told. Then she said, "get the hell out my house."

I had the same thought. Just like a JW.
Ditto!
It was such a programmed response. -

JW's vs Catholics
by Wordly Andre inone thing ive noticed with a lot of people on this website is hatred towards the catholic church, more so than any other religion, is this a by product of years of indoctrination from the jws?
i am not trying to change or challenge anyones beliefs, but i started thinking about this after watching last nights episode of big love, one of the wives on that show allows her son to attend a catholic school, but then starts talking about how crucifixes are demonic and how the church is full of evil, it reminded me of the way jws talk about the catholic church.
a while back i dated a girl who used to be a member of the world wide church of god or international church of christ, i forget the name exactly but they hated the catholic church too, a lot of the way they kept track of their members was very much like jws.

Good post/thread, Andre. I saw last night's Big Love and was taken back a bit at Nikki's attitude toward Catholics. Even when I studied w/jw's, I never felt hatred toward them. Perhaps I'm biased since I went to Catholic school and attended Mass 1000 times more than any kh 'meeting'.

But I wonder what would come out of my mouth if I knocked over a cup of coffee into my laptop during the meeting?
I said it 5 times in a row this morning for that reason. It wasn't my laptop, but my LAP, all over my pretty white linen skirt.

I'd ask him why religion has to be a condition for his friendship,
....then I'd say, if you are my friend, you will continue to be so even though we no longer share the same religious beliefs.
