I'm glad you found this board.
I found it while on a non-religious website defending WT beliefs. Others had posted 'apostate' sites and I ignored them. After months of questioning their stance on issues, I finally looked at a site (this one) that someone had posted..basically saying that they aren't all they make themselves out to be.
I thought, 'if they think they're right, I'll prove them wrong, too'! I was so programmed to defend everything wt even though I didn't believe everything myself. Well, I started reading and saw the other side to the story, and never looked back. It also helped me to trust my gut and open my brain again.

A Divided Household
by HadEnuf inwhilst taking my morning shower, where i always seem to do my best thinking (please, no rude remarks concerning showering, thank you)...i got to thinking about my dad.
our family was raised jw's; except for my dad, who knew better!
he passed away about 20 years ago and today, whilst in my shower, (oh yeah, i said that already)...i thought how hard that must of been on him.

((((Hadenuf))))
Your father reminds me of my husband, in that he endured my jw's holiday/bday shunning so as to support me. He was ok with avoiding those things at home and raising our kids to do the same (at home). He just never stopped them from participating with his family.
Once I stopped studying and attending meetings, I realized what I was forcing him to miss out on certain things since they are his kids too. Your dad really loves you a lot and did comply out of love, I don't doubt.

I've gotten roses, too, but have a black thumb so they usually don't leave a lasting effect.

Re:Tata's post:
This is a computer generated translation that I did not edit..so, there are a couple words a bit out of place.
Finally, you should maintain you clean in moral sense. The Bible exhorts to ?to flee the fornication? (1 Corinthian 6:18). The original Greek word for fornication, by·néi·to, refers to illicit sexual every activity that imply the employment of the organs genitals out of the marriage, which includes the oral sex and to caress the sexual organs. Some Christian youths have acted thus thinking that they did not commit fornication. Nevertheless, the Word of God says clearly: ?This is the will of God: the sanctification of you, that abstain of the fornication; that each one of you know to take possession of its own glass in sanctification and honor?

Do your research without WT publications!
On oral sex: I had no idea this was not allowed! My husband (non-religious) wouldn't have put up with me wanting to be a jw if I brought that up...and stopped! I wouldn't have blamed him, either!
As for education: one of the last get togethers I attended was a housewarming party, in which my husband was the only non-witness there. We watched this 'new' dvd, I think it was a Young people ask...A hs senior was going to be accepted into college w/a track scholarship and he got the guilt trip of his life..wanting to do anything other than serve jehovah.
So although it's not brought up in the exact words of, "Don't go to college", it is definately looked down upon the exact same way most of you have experienced. When we left, my husband was commenting on it saying that it's bullshit to get your kid to give up a full ride to college doing something he/she loves, in order to lead meetings. Silly brainwashed me still tried to convince him it was for the better, even though I could no longer believe those words myself.
