  Would YOU Have Not Taken Blood When You Were a JW???

  i'm sure i would not have taken blood or given permission to my child if she "needed" it.

  No I wouldn't have. I once lost 2.5 litres of blood in a few minutes and survived by the skin of my teeth and skill of two frantic surgeons and a calm anaesthetist. I was awake during a caesarian section and it's quite a shock to find that this is the end and it's touch and go.

  Well here I am, still here. The disease implications of blood still worry me but if it was life or death for any of my family I know I would choose life now.

  Profit making..

  does anyone have any accurate information on the profit margin the wtbts has on all its publications/cd's etc?.

  even my loyal jw relatives are complaining about the constant moaning from the platform for more contributions.

  i'd like to be able to give them some accurate knowlege for a change.. thanks everyone!.

  Damn right 'no charity work.'

  My dear old mum did some collecting around her neighbourhood, in the dark I might add, collecting for Loros. (Loros is a hospice society in Leicester). She kept it very quiet and asked me to help her with the paper work as she was afraid anyone in the congregation might find out she had been helping a charity.

  I remember scathing talk about Mother Teresa feeding the poor and not taking care of their spiritual needs first though. I can't ever remember JW's being involved in charitable concerns on preaching the senses out of folk.

  The reason I asked is I've been reading the section in Cof C where Franz is talking about how poorly and shabbily the bethelite volunteers are treated. There's got to be some massive profit involved in not paying for a work force. I vaguely remember reading somewhere about a possible 500% profit on the mags but can't remember where from. I know my mother is always paying once for the mags and then contributing the contributions from people who take them as well!

  My sad news

  as some of you on the board knew i was expecting a baby, i feel i should let you know that things have not worked out for us.. when i went for the 20 week ultrasound scan last thursday, severe problems were found with our baby's internal development.

  only one kidney was detected, and it was very enlarged and polycystic.

  there was no long term hope for the baby at all; if it survived to full term it could only live for hours at most.

  Why Do People Become/Stay As Jehovah's Witnesses???

  what makes a person leave their religion and join the witnesses?

  what makes a doubter or better yet a jw that knows this isn't really the truth, remain a witness?

  i believe most stay on because being a witness is like being a member of a club.

  I agree with ohiocowboy. They become trapped. To leave involves too much effort and too many loses. It's also partly due to laziness, like the question of why people don't change mortgage lenders and get a cheaper mortgage. TOO MUCH EFFORT!

  Education - How encouraging low self esteem creates better witnesses.

  funny title you might think but consider this point and apologies if i am covering old ground here...its not intentional.. i was raised by my mother who was and is a devout jw and as such until i was 20 (10 years ago) i was the same...trying my best to fit into the social environment i clearly was not made for but benefiting from good wholesome association with fellow brothers and sisters (note the sarcastic tone...make what you will of it).. althought at the time i didnt realise it but i was what others consider intelligent and quite academically able; i had a mind like a sponge and would spend hours in the jw library at the kh (which surprisingly enough contained non jw literature)...it was this that i read and would digest endlessly where i could.. one of those books (why it was there i dont know), was what i later undertood to be criminal law reports concerning cases that had gone before the courts.

  my childish thirst for knowledge was intrigued...(i was then about 12).

  the legal arguments i hadnt a clue what they meant but the facts surrounding these crimes were good reading.. i then knew i wanted to be a lawyer and that was what i said when an elder asked me what i wanted to do when i grew up; i mentioned trusting this man that i had read a book in the kh library and found it interesting...and that i wanted to be lawyer...i remember him smiling and saying that it was better to pioneer rather than seek a highly paid job...personally i didnt know what he meant properly but i felt a bit sad...and demotivated...i later in the week went back into the library and found the book had gone...!!.

  My mother always quotes the scripture, which I can only paraphrase at the moment because I'm too lazy to get up an find my bible, that "God has chosen the stupid people of the world to be his servants."

  Therefore,she means that if you truly want to be one of God's servants you must be uneducated.

  If You Wanted Someone To Join JWD, How Would You Describe This Place?

  this board is the biggest jw discussion board that i know of.

  i'm sure timid witnesses look here on a daily basis but do not join for various reasons.

  i know some might not really know what to expect if they did become a member.
