You've just brought back bad memories for me.
There was a very elderly brother in our cong who used to play the piano organ for the meeting songs. The elders were always on at him to switch to the pre recorded tapes but since he was still PO he wouldn't.
One memorial meeting, he compromised and recorded himself playing the songs for the memorial. Anyway, the mistake he made was to put the tape recorder on the organ when he was recording.
Came the meeting night, no one had pre listened to the 'music' assuming it would be all right.
The tape was switched on for the first song and out came the sound of one hundred cats being strangled and beaten to death! I kid you not it was that bad!
What was worse still, the congregation carried on singing the song over this dreadful racked, unsure what else to do.
No guidance from any one, the sound attendant dare not turn the tape off because, after all it was the PO who was playing the wretched instrument.
Finally the PO, red face, marched to the back of the hall and switched the tape off and the congregation carried on singing unaccompanied.
What was funny was people's reaction afterwards. Not that they found it funny, but they were ashamed because of all the studies, new ones and relatives they had brought along to the memorial, and what a bad witness this would be.
