My Son was cornered by a superior pioneer sister cousin who said 'Did you not want to bother with the memorial?' to which he replied, 'What the hell is it any of your business? Mind your own!'
Wish I was that brave.
you are fading, and dont want your friends / family from out of town to know that you no longer want to be a jw.
they may know that you are not going to all the meetings, or not.
but since the biggest deal to them has been the memorial, they expect that you went.. we did not go.

hi all, and especially scoobysnax as i was just reading your post.. i saw a bit of the news yesterday and the archbishop of canterbury was giving a sermon.
the newscaster said that he was warning about the world's obsession with youth.
i'm not so sure that's what he was saying though.. he said, or words to this effect, that he felt pity for those who believed that they would never grow old, suffer illness and death in this life, and 'god help them' because of the illusion that they were living under.. i don't think he was talking about youth.

I don't think he was talking about youth. I think he was talking about something else all together, which is the mistaken fantasty world that many christian fundamentalist chose to believe.
The fact is, that we're all chosing to believe what suits us and what we want to believe and in that way, maybe our wishes are obscuring whatever the 'truth' might be.
JWs in particular are living in an illusionist paradise and pay the price for it with their sadly pressured and miserable life.
Would any one want to go back to that?
The price of free thought is uncertainty but to me is worth every thing it costs.
one of the things that i could never rationalize is the way the jws all claim to believe the same things.
i mean seriously, you can't get 4 people to decide on dinner!
how are you going to get 6 million to agree on countless and everchanging doctrinal pronouncements.
I don't know if this makes much sense, but when I was a JW I probably 'believed' everything I was told to believe but didn't necessarily agree with any of it. Shows what a brainwashed dumb ass I was all those years.
Now, i don't believe or agree with ANYTHING that the WTBTS might spout as doctrine simply because all their basic doctrines and beliefs ie. 1914, 1919, 607 bce etc are all nonsense.
i have no guilt for not attending for 2 years in a row.
I feel good ...da, da, da, da, da, da,
I knew that I would.......
Haven't been for 4 years and don't give a flying +%$£
we did.. we used to call them "memorial saints".
they were the fringe members, the fallen away, the disfellowshipped, those who had their own private pipeline to jehovah, bible studies, good-will, disinterested husbands, delinquent kids, prophets, lunatics and uncle tom cobley and all.. in short, all the weirdo's that could be mustered together on just one night of the year.
but it got the numbers up.
New Worldly Translation - too funny! And too true!
I always wondered what they were doing at the hall when they didn't have to be there. Lucky so and so's!
No one, meaning elders, has been to invite us over the last 3/4 years of fading. Even this year, not a whisper of an invitation!
My mum asked if she could take the little children to the memorial and I told her they were too young to attend cult meetings. She asked about the older ones and I told her they'd got more sense. She nearly had a fit, but she'll get over it.
Now, I'm beginning to feel superior to those who ever go to the memorial!
Funny thing is, I remember when the attendances at the memorial at our hall used to be 220 plus. Yet I was hearing what a wonderful attendance they had in having 172 go!! Crazy dub logic I suppose.
can anyone tell me what the laws are in the uk on false imprisonment?.
to cut a long story short, my son, who is not a jw has a girlfriend who is a jw and is also a full time pioneer in her early twenties, is being kept in the house by her parents.
they found out, about two weeks ago, that she is seeing 'someone'.
Thanks under74. The links workiing now!

Thanks under74. The 'huge drama' scenario is one I would seriously like to avoid. Someone has to be spoken to about it though. How wrong it is to lock someone into their house also seems to vary in some peoples mentality. I remember when my sister was being 'worldy' my mother wanted to take the keys and keep her locked in the house when she was not at work, until I explained I would report her to the police as it was illegal to imprison anyone (I think). As I said before, there are people who do not take this seriously. In a paternalistic organization and control freak org such as JWs and certain other religious groups, no one might bat an eye lid. However, that does not settle the issue for me. There's got to be some way to give this girl her rights but I'm also concerned for any consequences. She did say to my son, tht she was worried what would happen when any one left who tried to help her.

Thanks under74 but I can't get on to this link. I just get an error message.
I'd mentioned the police to my son but he said that his girlfriend was accepting it as she was worried about the consequences if the police become involved. I know there are organizations in the UK that deal with Asian young women who are in this sort of situation but don't know whether it would be wise to get into contact with them , or the police either myself or with my son for fear of escalating the situation for her. But I know she is very unhappy about what is happening.
I also think, that JW 'brainwashing' , as she has been a JW her whole life is a complicating factor. I have tried to talk to her about a few things I've learnt on JWD and other sites and other info. and she seemed interested in it but...don't really know what her mental state could turn to.
Remember this young woman is in her early 20's. They're treating her like a small child and she is trapped.

Any thoughts, ideas, or tips on how to handle this situation.....anyone?

Hello All!
Can anyone tell me what the laws are in the UK on false imprisonment?
To cut a long story short, my son, who is not a JW has a girlfriend who is a JW and is also a full time pioneer in her early twenties, is being kept in the house by her parents. They found out, about two weeks ago, that she is seeing 'someone'. Since then, unless she is at work, meetings or out in field service she has to stay in the house with her father and the doors are locked. He has the keys. She is not allowed out of the house on her own under any circumstances. Her father has in the past been violent towards her and her mother. And she is afraid to go against her parents.
Does anyone know how she stands legally? Has any one had to deal with this sort of situation and have an idea on the best way to go about it?
Thanks.
Gill
