the founder of (what is today called) jehovah's witnesses was a self-styled "pastor" charles taze russell.. his family was scottish presbyterian.
his mother must have inculcated all the fearsome lore of hell into her son at a very early age.
he often chalked on sidewalks warnings of hellfire for passers by as a child.. somewhere along the line he tangled with an atheist in a debate and was left torn to shreds by the beating he took.

It would have been even more obvious that reading his 'piece' was a waste of time if he had quoted that scripture FIRST!!

I agree with Lady Zombie, in that I too hope my elderly parents never find out that they were conned, tricked, scammed etc. It would totally destroy them at their age.
I used to want them to wake up to the reality but the more I pointed out the flaws in the borg the more they vehemently denied it until they painted me 'evil apostate and 'friend of Satan!' Yeah! Whatever.
Then the changes in the borg started to come in, the Awake, WT reductions and the book study scrapping and the Public talk reductions and I suspect they started to wonder what was happening. Surely if the end was imminent they should be meeting together more!?
Yes! It all started to make no sense at all!
Then, they started doing so many jobs on their house, rebuild, extensions, conservatory, new kitchen, new bathroom, new porch etc the list was and is endless. All the things they never bothered with because 'Armageddon is coming!'
They still appear extremely miserable but, there is nothing to be done for it now!
At least they didn't give all their money to the WT Society!
But there does seem to be a slow awakening of JWs and the reality is making them sick.

i understand (rightly or wrongly) that the 'green' had occult connotations that some did not approve of.. is this true and were the early jws too involved with hidden, esoteric, occult meaning that 'others' found uncomfortable and so they had to go to the sobre black bibles?.
How about 'the Green Man' - the colour of nature.
You can understand a superstition growing around the 'green bible' in other religions, especially once they knew of the mistranslations that were apparantly deliberately included just to support WT doctrine.
But maybe that's all lies too and perhaps the Watchtower Bible is the only true bible translation. I have heard that said too.
Perhaps I'll go back to looney hall........or maybe not!

It appears that Freeminds is a slanderous site and so should be blacklisted.
FJtoth, has pointed out frankly that the bethel was known locally as a brothel and this was an out and out lie. He has deleted his posts as he hs been so offemded that such a lie could be perpetrated and is therefore unwilling to participate by forwarding what he knows was only rumoured and slandered of the good brothers at the bethel.
Therefore, a good man and good organization has been wickedly slandered which is not surprising for anti JW sites!

Gopher - I remember a very elderly JW lady having a small red NWT. Her family gave a lot of her stuff to my parents when she died as none of them were JWs.
The 'green' is some kind of big giveaway for what the NWT is commonly understood to be: a contrived piece of bible scholarship!

If all the so called 'hanky panky' had been made known you can perhaps understand why the bethel may have been known as a 'brothel'.
