Great point,
I also know of a witness mother whose df'd son moved back in because he was dying of AIDS. She nursed him for nearly five years until his death. No elders gave her a hard time.

judged for not ostrisizing?
by blindfool inok, i'm getting a little lazy here.
i glanced at a couple of jw books on the issue, but i know you guys can answer, so i'm going straight to the experts.. what happens if a good witness refuses to ostracize a df'd member.
i know an elder might approach and question their actions, but would a judicial committee ever be formed to stop a person from associating with a df'd witness?.

I see your point.
The people involved in this case are certainly not as high profile as Ray Franz. It seems that a lot of good people were df'd during that time for reasons I'm asking about. -

Thanks for the link. I had read the story before but thanks for reminding me about it.
The thing is, even the writer of this story says he know his was not the typical case.
I wonder sometimes, is there a typical case? Maybe not. Just seems to be how each paticular body of elders feels. -

I f only they had been Jws
by badboy inif only hitler the product of an incestious marriage(father/mother were uncle/niece)had become a jw,there would have been no ww11 and no palestian crisis!.
if stalin who once had a son by a underage liasison(sp)had become a jw, the soviet union would had taken a different course.. who else is there?.
i got this idea of this post from a jiffy advert i saw in a programme some time ago

This reminds me of a conversation I had with one of the witnesses I stuided with several years ago.
I asked her, who would have stopped Hitler if everyone believed as witnesses believe. Her answer was that if everyone believed then Hitler wouldn't have been evil.
Well, I guess that makes sense until you realize that if all the good people are neutral, then there would be no one to stop evil people. -

Do any of you guys have experience with such an issue? Would a mother have judicial action taken against her for having lunch with her df'd daughter? What if she were counseled about such actions and continued to have an ongoing relationship? How far would the elders let this go before taking action? What action would they take?

Shunning/Ostracising
by DevonMcBride inthe past few weeks i have been comnunicating with jw's in my area who attend kh meetings physically but not mentally.
they are "closet apostates" or "double agents".
some are planning to leave the area altogether to avoid the hassles of being shunned.. according to one of these "closet apostates", he believes that 30% if not more of the members in his congregation would leave if it were not for the shunning.

Devon,
Glad your not mad. Its nice to have a good discussion without name calling or anything.
You asked where freedom of religion ends?
The simple answer is that religious freedom ends where the law begins.
Polygamy is illegal, as are the traderious acts of John Lindh.
You are advocating a law against ostrisizing past members of a religion. Think about the pratical aspects of enforcing such a law. Do you tell people that they must talk to each other and be friendly with everyone? As you know, the WT can publically change its offical position and comply with any law, and still have the members tow the unofficial party line.
I think the JW policy of ostrisizing truly sucks. Its one reason I was never babtised. Maybe I saw the policy for what it was before most people do. My mother-in-law was df'd for smoking while I was a bible study. So maybe I was lucky for having such an eye opening experience before being babtised.
I think a lot of people see the government as a way to make people think and act a certain way. I, on the other hand, think the government should stay out of peoples lives as much as posible.
Freedom of religion is a major part of the US Constitution, one of the laws our forefathers realized was tatamound to a free nation. Giving up freedoms for security is something we Americans are getting very accustomed too. I think we should be very careful about giving up any more freedoms. The political climate in our country probably favors your position. You could possibly get some politicians to go along with you on your idea. I personally feel our freedoms are much to valuable to give up because of policies of groups like JW's.

I don't want a fight here, not looking to make anyone mad or anything...but, shouldn't a bible study know these things go on before they are babtised?
How long do they go to the meetings. Surely they enconter someone at the KH or in field service who is df'd or da'd before they are babtised.
Look at the more than 200 questions that Amazing posted a week or so ago. These questions are asked before babtism. I know everyone doesn't get all 200, but, they should go in with their eyes wide open.Write all the letters to editors you want, put up fliers and posters, but don't screw around with religious freedoms. That would be a siippery slope indeed.

Sorry, I don't agree here.
The problem is, no one ever forced anyone to become a JW.
We may live in a free country, but with that freedom comes responsibility. We don't need more laws that protect us from our- selves.
Everytime we look to the government to fix our problems, we lose a little more freedom. Think personal responsibility not government intervention.BDF

DO EVEN DIE HARD JWs REALLY THINK THE END IS NEAR
by Liberty inafter reading a couple of posts about the growing apathy among the r&f jws today i was reminded of the years following 1975 when the dropout rate was growing rapidly and the "faithful" die hards took it as a sign that the "end" was really really near since the winnowing process was removing so much chaff.
keep in mind that this was over 25 years ago.
it's been mentioned before but it is worth repeating that, no matter what is happening, religious fanatics(jws) always see it as a sign from god.

I saw a t-shirt a couple of years ago.
On the front it said:
Jesus is coming!
On the back it said:
And he's pissed!! -

From the Good News Bible, Galatians 5:1
Freedom is what we have-Christ has set us free!
Stand, then, as free people, and do not allow yourselves to become slaves again.I think I'll tape that to the refrigerator tonight!
Kinda looses some of the meaning in the NWT:
"For such freedom Christ set us free. Therefore standfast, and do not let yourselves be confined again in a yoke of slavery."
