The WTS is now "suggesting" that members practice the songs before the convention (should be at KH too). Been a problem for a long time. I am a singer and I was told not to drown out the others who sang in whispers.

Disaster preparedness
by ElderBerry inas your family considers its disaster preparedness plan, please ensure that the secretary has up-to-date contact information for you and your emergency contact.
also, we have re- peatedly seen good results when brothers and sisters are prepared with go bags and are ready to obey direction when they face various kinds of disasters.
please be sure you have a go bag, and review its contents at least once a year.

The whole gobag thing originated with Hurricane Katrina, when the WTS lost all track of some members who used it to fade away. Congregation elders did not have or had out of date lists of phone numbers and addresses of the rank file....the go bag thing started shortly after that.

Children dumped at ministry group
by Mikejw init’s not right for children to be forced to come to ministry groups on their own without their parents.
the parents just expect others to look after them.. we have this happening at our group all the time.
early teens and even younger.. the parents just want them out of the house for a bit and put the burden on others to look after them and get them home safely.. there should be an announcement or something that youths need to be accompanied by a responsible adult and not just dumped at the group on their own.. who is supposed to look after them?.

Armageddon Car
by OnTheWayOut inhow many of you bought a nice sedan, suv, or even a minivan back in the days that you described as your "armageddon car" that you would care for and it would last until the end arrived?.
i was driving a 1974 plymouth volare wagon in 1992 when i managed to get an 8-year old buick century.
it was low mileage and had a very luxurious interior.

I never had an Armageddon car. My family did not buy into 1975; partly because some were alive in 1925 and saw that fall by the wayside. Our reason, Matthew 24:44. But we did not share it with others. New Living Translation :You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected. So, if it was expected in 1975, it was not the right date.

Here's a website with statements from the WTS to obey even when it seems they are wrong.

Study Article 6 Do You Trust in Jehovah’s Way of Doing Things?
During the great tribulation, we may receive instructions that seem strange, impractical, or illogical. Of course, Jehovah will not speak to us personally. He will likely provide direction through his appointed representatives. That will hardly be the time to second-guess the direction or to view it with skepticism, wondering, ‘Is this really coming from Jehovah, or are the responsible brothers acting on their own?’ How will you fare during that crucial time in human history? The answer might be indicated by how you view theocratic direction now. If you trust the direction we receive today and readily obey, you will likely do the same during the great tribulation. -

Good advice BA2, I use most of those. If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. -

Do JWs Really Say This?
by NotFormer ini stumbled, via a google search, upon a part of jw space that is usually heavily defended against outsiders like my good self.
in a discussion, someone started their post with "i (started doing x)... when the slave began to suggest doing so"*.
do pimis really talk that way?

RTN, yes, the inference is there. I always like when someone would answer, "the paragraph says" instead of the "bible says." Yes, that jw knew whose words they had to pay attention to....

Having played in orchestras at WTS conventions, it took a lot of time to meet and practice as a group and there were some primadonna brothers who were very unkind conducting. From my time where many family members were musical, sang or played various instruments it was not unusual to sing at family dos with at least a piano to sing with. As to choirs, we used to get together and sing non-jw and jw songs with many able to sing harmony. It was a good time.

SeaBreeze, "But, I doubt he would agree that he fought in 3 wars to allow JW parents kick their questioning teenagers out the house on the street and shun them." No, he would not feel that was the way to go either. He didn't know any jws that had done that so he didn't have an opportunity to tell them how hypocritical they were. At times there were young men in the military that wanted to get out legally and he would help them get through the red tape necessary. My father though did not let my mother impose her beliefs on us. I do think fighting in 3 wars to protect people's religious beliefs is a bad thing.
