JWs, The WatchTower Society, Child Abuse and Disfellowshipping
by Simon insomething just struck me.. is the wts the only religion that won't kick people out for abusing children, but would kick you out for visiting a website that informs you that the wts won't kick people out for abusing children .... it really shows where their sensibilities lie.
they are more interested in acting as gatekeepers to information, especially information about them, than providing basic levels of protection to the children of their members.. maybe someone with a better turn of phrase can shorten it, it might make a good meme - something short and simple that really makes people think:.
"the wts - tougher on those who read reports of jw child abuse than on jws who conduct child abuse".

Confession Time - Music You're Embarrassed to Admit Listening To
by Simon inadmit it, we all have things that we reel off when people ask what our favourite music is, just the same as if people ask what our favourite movies are.
we're meant to say "citizen kane" and "casablanca" and not "battleship" or "pacific rim" but we know what we're going to watch if they are ever on tv at the same time (and which ones we've never actually seen).. so how about some confession time?
what do you listen to when no one else is in the house?.

I had music that I liked that I would never admit to a jw (when I was a jw).
I still like
ABBA
(almost anything from the disco era, with discretion)
I still love listening to Christmas songs during the season (and singing)
I love music, and as a musician (piano, clarinet, guitar), almost 90% of the WTS songs pained me to sing or listen to. A few had decent tunes, but the words were grating. Now almost all the 10% have been re-written with new but even worse tunes. I was embarrassed to have any non-jw musical friend hear the WTS songs.

why do jws hate pagans?
by nowawake14 inpaganism from my view is just a mental fantasy.
it's not real.
so why do jws get mad at it anyway?
-

I think jws tend to lump in everyone in the group called "pagans." Even Christian non-jws are lumped in because the WTS labels them as so-called Christians who follow pagan practices, unknowingly.
Of course, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc., never identified as Christians, so are definitely pagans per the WTS.

Why no mention of the service overseer working with the pioneer to see what specific help they need and personal encouragement?
In days gone by, the CO went D2D (to observe them in action at the door) or on a "bible study" with every regular pioneer (including sisters, no pawning them off to their wife, she has no appointed position). There is no pre-test by the elders to see if the person has good skills or needs help before or after they appoint them.
As to the Pioneer Assist program, what a joke. I knew a sister who was assigned to the congregation gossip (a regular pioneer) for so-called assistance. Now what person would confide in that kind of person. It turned out that none of the other candidates wanted to be paired with her. The sister reclined the pairing telling the service overseer that the sister was a gossip (well-known in the congregation as a gossip).

As the public and the legal system are getting educated more and more about this problem in the WTS, it will become harder to hide it from the non-jw public, encourage more victims to come forward, and hopefully make more jws wake up to it.

1975 and 1981?
by Steel inis it true that in 1975 the watchtower falsely predicted the end of the world and a great number of the membership quit and just a few years later they turned disassociation into disfellowshipping?

dubstepped, yes Ray was asked to leave Bethel in 1981 and an announcement was made in the KM.
But...he and his wife, started associating with a congregation in Gadsen, AL. Shortly after that, an elder that knew Ray quite well before the event in 1981, disassociated himself. Perhaps because of that, the WTS realized they had to make Ray like kryptonite to other jws.
So they made a new policy, that jws who associated with disassociated jws, could be disfellowshipped for that and made it retroactive. Ray and his wife, had continued to associate socially with this man and his jw wife, while still attending that congregation, without any repercussion. But after the policy changed, Ray was df'd retroactively. But Ray's wife was not df'd although she had also associated socially with that disassociated man. After the WTS df'd Ray, he started writing his books, which first came out in 1984. Ray stopped thinking that somehow the WTS could be redeemed.

Thanks, Tameria 2001. When my never-raised-jw husband listened to that for the first time, and heard:
Stay Alive til '75
He just started laughing.
He has a revised post-1975 chant:
No more after '34 (the reference is to 1914 + 120 years given humans before their destruction by God

I will post this separately, which was my first reason for coming on here.
I have seen just today an article from ABC news regarding victims of sexual abuse in the WTS and how it was hidden; I have seen more and more on my Google News, and other news sources. I anticipate many more. I was glad to seen how many showed up at the same time with the news about the WTS conventions this summer. If jws are searching the news using some form of "jehovah's" or "watchtower", they would have to close their eyes and move away. But then jws seem to have a problem viewing pornography why not negative news about the WTS.

I don't why any jw or ex-jw would think they would have a pipeline into the cases in their old or current congregation. The BOEs I have known are very careful to cover this up. Who really cares outside the WTS, whether some jw has committed "fornication" or adultery. These are very common outside the WTS, in countries like the US, Canada, UK, and Australia, and Europe. But child sexual abuse, even the Catholic church cannot avoid the hammer coming down on their head and they have more resources to hide it, but not any more.
Some elders or ex-elders might have a pipeline into their own congregation but individual congregations are not likely to air their "dirty" laundry to other BOEs.
Even if this only occurred once in every congregation, how many children would that be, how many congregations are there now, in 2015, 115,400. So would 115,400 victims of child sexual abuse be enough to make it a big enough problem to do something about?
There are quite a few ex-jws at the forefront of combating the WTS past and current efforts to hide child sexual abuse in their midst, getting info from all over the world and working with non-jw lawyers to reveal the extent of the problem.
They know how extensive this is. If you wonder how extensive, contact Barbara Anderson and she might be able to give you the statistics.
If have misunderstood anyone's position on the reality of child sexual abuse in the WTS, I apologize, but if you have diminished its reality, shame on you. You have become part of the problem.
