I suppose that would then mean that they were never really one of the 144,000 and that someone else is destined to be, but it would be seen by the remaining JW's that they had a lot to ‘lose’ - might get them thinking.
Just wondered.

hi, i am new to this site.
i have been an ex- jw for about 10years now, and this is the first time i have done this.
( trying to avoid the "apostate" label) haha i would love to hear from some ex- jw's, and see if they have and are going thru some of the same experiences that i am.
Hi There
I just replied to your other post and forgot to say hi - so, hi and welcome.
I too have been out for about 10 years and only recently came on to JWD. I'm sure you'll read things here that will confirm your reasons for leaving further, even after 10 years - I know I have.
Welcome and enjoy.

i was wondering if anyone else has had a hard time making friends since leaving the organization.
being raised as a jw, it seems difficult to me, as i was never allowed to have any friends who weren't other jw's.
as a result, i have isolated myself to only my immediate family.
Yes, this is something I have had trouble with, especially in the early days. Unfortunately I also moved around a lot when I was younger (11 houses in 14 years), so it was difficult to make friends anyway, and any that I did I soon drifted away from - even if I still stayed nearby. Also had an equal effect on relationships.
witnesses must always have a clean and pure language to honor god, and must never cuss.
now imagine an elder accidentally hitting his finger with a hammer...
what words may he exclaim in this moment of pain?
This is something that always got to me; I'm not allowed to swear, but it is ok for my mother (still a JW) to use substitute words. If it is a substitute then the sentiment is the same; a word is just a word, it is the meaning that is put behind it that makes it a swear word.
I have no problem with swearing, I find it a descriptive and efficient way to convey the emotion behind the subject, in the right circumstances of course. That said, the general view of society dictates that certain words are offensive, and so censorship of these words, whether I wish to use them or not, is often best applied.
Anyway, some of my favourites:

now, remembering that a tract is 'small and informative' and meant to 'whet the appetite' (appetite?
... make me sick more like), what do you think should be included?

Undecided:
Yes, for an infinite period of time before conception and for an infinite period of time after death, you don?t exist (depending on your belief), so what is the point in this 70 years (or so) break. Paradoxically, being that there is infinitum before and after, it?s as if we have never existed.
And yes, why the stellar bodies, far enough away to have no influence over the earth, it?s trajectories or to even be able to see them. Why are they there? There must be a reason ? mustn?t there?
Well, ironically, it is probably this method of thought that got us here in the first place. There are endless questions to be asked in an attempt to qualify our beliefs, and most of them unanswerable. There were probably many (relatively) learned men pondered in this manner in the early days of civilisation, and in the absence of logical explanation, attributed what they queried to something now referred to as god.

What is the point? Really?
In this day and age, why do people still feel they have to believe in a god? I can see why people were roped into it a few thousand years ago when there were no reasonable scientific explanations for even the smallest of things, but there is a much better understanding of things now. Something as simple as an earthquake, how would you explain that if you had no understanding of the science? The earth moving below you, terrifying and awe inspiring to say the least, what kind of supreme power could have caused that? He must have been angry with us!
Why would there be a god? To create us and leave us to kill ourselves? What would be the point in creating all of this, just so that he could sit back and watch every wrongful death, human suffering and everything else that?s wrong with the world, take place? What is the point? Freewill? What about the Asian Tsunami, what was the point of letting that happen? And people TURN to god in times like this (I can?t believe it), yeah that?s right, turn and worship a god that by definition of your belief, had the power to control the events that just killed hundreds of thousands of people. Compassionate. Bull sh*t.
And even if you still believe there is a god, which one do you choose? Which faith do you choose? Which religion do you choose? There are so many out there, and everyone is the right one, so how are you ever meant to choose? You could never study each one sufficiently to make an informed decision. If there is a god, why didn?t he just give us a definite single path that we could all follow, harmonise under and worship him as he is so desperately in need for us to do (insecure to the Max)? What?s that, the Bible? So maybe we don?t adhere to a religion, but follow what the Bible tells us? Which one then?
Im not sure what bible you are reading from
Couldn?t have put it better my self.
If there is or was ever a god, we are now so far removed from the ability to believe in him that he has completely lost the plot.
