Overheard in a public library
by under_believer inwhen i was a kid, my parents (strong in the truth: father elder, mother regular pioneer) encouraged me to read.
in reality, they could hardly have held me back; i come from a long line of bookworms, including my father.
books were like water.

Something strange about "Christs invisible presence"...
by Hellrider insomething just occured to me: .
we all know that "parousia" doesn`t mean "invisble presence" at all, it just means "presence", but think about the inlogical...ness about the whole jw-doctrine on 1914. my question is: what is jesus` job really, up there in heaven?
- he "took reign" and was "given the throne" in 1914. but what does that mean, really?

He's working on a really good ass-groove in his throne....

Glad to hear your feeling much better about your position, I'm quite sure it will only improve with time as making decisions based on your own logic always feels better than doing things based on someone else's skewed reasonings.
Since I’m not officially baptized, I don’t have to send in any letter or do anything. It doesn’t matter anyway since none of them seem to care, even though I did spend most of my life spouting off their beliefs and trying to fit in with them. Right now, I am trying to attend one church service of any of the Christian religions around me to get a feel for other things.
Don't be suprised if they do become interested in you once they find out you're attending another church....but that can be just a confirmation for you...
Good luck,

Jehovahs (Hidden) Message Revealed (Why no TV ministry?) Terry Walstrom

Another great article by Terry , it's good to see he's still writing
.
He makes some interesting points , such as Rutherford's scheming to wrestle control of the watchtower society and mold it in the span of a couple decades intoJehovah'sRutherford's chariot able to turn on a dime and go any direction he wished. It's maintained this same amount of control, only changing or softening it's stance , when absolutely necessary.
I do tend to agree, however , with the other poster who mentioned the organization now has taken on a life of its own. I personally don't feel that there's an out right real estate scheme at work, only to the extent that it's a means of survival, or rather the expansion, of the organization.
I also see another reason to keep the door to door preaching work as its cornerstone. One of the traits of a successful cult is to keep its members busy, busy, busy . If the TV ministry got going it may have the effect of undermining the door to door work, which is the primary focus and ultimately the treadmill that keeps the average dub busy. The the average witness may feel their service may not be as necessary as it once was, and then the average hours spent in the door to door work would start to lower. The hours that were once spent in the ministry, may become hours now spent on rational thought, more social time spent with family and friends (again not in a cult's interest )
or worse yet the Internet.
So from a business perspective , the risk to reward ratio will probably keep the WTS out of the T. V. game for now. Too bad , it may have been fun to watch that show crash and burn .... -

Jonadabs, the promise they will never die made in 1935
by garybuss injonadabs, the promise they will never die made in 1935. .
convention.
again the watchtower reminds its readers that a convention of jehovahs witnesses and jonadabs mill be held at washing ton, d. c., beginning may 30 and ending june 3, 1933. it is hoped that many of the remnant and the jonadabs may find it convenient to attend this convention.

Are you tired of the whole atheist/believer debate?
by nicolaou ini'm usually the first one to stir this particular pot but it get's so frustrating to keep coming up against the same old arguments.
the phrase "banging your head against a brick wall" springs to mind.
how many times have believers argued for a designer but refused to answer the obvious question of the designer's origin?.

as I am currently leaning on the atheist side of the debate, the tiresome part for me , has to be the "well you weren't there so how do you know if the earth was created or not " argument .
I enjoyed reading an interview of Douglas Adams that can be found here http://www.americanatheist.org/win98-99/T2/silverman.html
He makes the point that all opinions are not equal. even though it's fashionable to automatically respect any opinion about god or some religious outlook, there's such a thing as the burden of proof.
" God used to be the best explanation we got , and we've now got vastly better ones . God is no longer an explanation of anything, but has instead become something that would itself need an insurmountable amount of explaining "
see , I can copy and paste with the best of them ... -

That doesn't mean there are intelligent arguments for theism! :)
