Maybe they are actually trying to discourage people, reduce attendances, and sell Kingdo Halls.

Why the meetings are boring and uninspiring
by UnshackleTheChains ineach individual may have their own views as to why they feel the meetings are boring and uninspiring.
in my case i find the midweek meeting so, because of the constant emphasis on pitching watchtower literature.
its just monotonous and one big yawn.. i watch other christian faiths where they open up a chapter of the bible and discuss it's contents.

Wait one minute here!!! Did the GB PURPOSEFULLY launch a D.O.S. attack on Russia? (aka the letter writting campaign)
by GTSfromSY ini know this sounds very outlandish by the title but hear this one out:.
a few months back i spoke to an old friend of mine raised "around the truth", but never baptized and wanting nothing to do with the wt.
he is very hip to what is going on in the wt however.

At the very least I think it's fair to say that Watchtower has not acted in a way that will Improve relations with the Russian state. Which shows a level of disregard for those JWs living in the country.

Were visits to the library an important part of your childhood?
by compound complex ingreetings, fellow bibliophiles:.
i remember how sad i was, as a little child, when our beloved carnegie library was razed (unsafe, structurally).
the same tragedy occurred when we moved to a new town and that similar architectural treasure was demolished to put up a new and gleaming building of steel and glass.

Yes very much so. I read every book about Native Americans I could find at my local library. This meant persuading the librarians to allow me to use the adult section because they had a wider selection when I was technically too young to qualify. In the end they ordered more books on the subject for my benefit.

Shoud individuals be held responsible for their INACTION?
by nicolaou inif you see someone about to be struck by a car or otherwise step into harms way but choose not to call out a warning or act in some way to prevent disaster, are you responsible for any harm caused?.
what defence, if any, can be offered for choosing inaction?
.

In my opinion yes, sometimes it can be wrong not to act. If you see someone in trouble and choose not to help you are morally as well as sometimes legally culpable. Is there a further purpose to the question?

Watchtower and the Robert F Kennedy assasination
by pale.emperor inonly stumbled upon this letter today:.
http://jw-wayback.org/jw-wb/english/letters/to%20congregations/1916-2006/1968-07-09%20to%20all%20congregations%20in%20the%20usa%20(jw%20involved%20in%20assassination%20of%20kennedy).pdf.
apparently, the father of bobby kennedy's killer was accused of being a jw.

Very interesting letter. Funny reading the old-time Watchtower belligerent style. It has a certain nostalgic charm.
Plus, as often with Watchtower, it's more interesting what they don't say than what they do say. They say congregations reported back that no member of the family is a baptised JW. Which is clearly not the same as saying they have no JW connection whatever. They say he was unknown to the Watchtower Society. They don't say he was unknown to the congregations they consulted. I don't think the ambiguity is unintentional. I assume this means his family had some JW connection, possibly as long-time Bible studies and KH attenders. But they don't spell that out.

Hello from Scotland - it has been ages....
by The Scotsman inwell how the devil is everyone?
i have not been here for a long time........totally lost track of what is going on in jw land, apart from the little bits i hear from family members still in.
(they say everything is swell and that armageddon is just round the corner).... :).was hearing that anniesland congregation in glasgow has been (or is about to be) disbanded.

That's interesting. I wonder how they justified it to the congregation. Simply, "look we need the money, and you can drive ten minutes down the road so don't complain". Who makes rather decision, I wonder. And can local elders stop it?
By the way Scotsman I wrote this thread arguing that WT is in serious financial trouble a few months ago. Not everyone agrees, but the facts speak for themselves.

Thanks Scotsman could you clarify are Anniesland and Kelvin merging congregations or are they selling one KH so two congregations share one KH?
I would be surprised if they merged congregations. I was at Kelvin congregation in the summer and there was 80 or more in attendance.

Since leaving the JW Organization, who is believing?
by Issa ini left the jw organization last year during summer.
maybe some of you can relate.
who of you are agnostic or an atheist?
-
slimboyfat
I think I'm agnostic too. But most people who leave JWs seem to keep some sort of belief in God. Although you wouldn't realise it from reading this discussion board where atheism tends to dominate. We don't hear from believers much on this forum for whatever reason, many keep it to themselves or go elsewhere.
