  i was wondering what is the most interesting or the strangest fact you've found out since leaving the jws about:.

  Curiously difficult question for me to answer. Maybe I'm not reflective enough.

  But among the surprises to me were finding that Charles Taze Russell believed 1) that there are historical mistakes in the Bible 2) that animals may have evolved into their different species rather than being direct creations 3) that Jesus is to be worshipped 4) that many forerunners of the Bible Students were genuine Christians and 5) that all, or most humans will be saved by God in the end.

  All of which are pretty good ideas that JWs would do well to revisit, in my view.

  I just saw Phantom Thread. I'd give it 10/10.

  Excellent actkng. I not sure if it's entirely intentional, but I understand the film as a comment on contemporary anxiety about gender roles and excellently executed. Some will find the plot twist unsatisfying, but I tend to understand it metaphorically in relation to the theme. Plus it's got some very funny scenes.

  I agree it was a good film.

  How I rated films I've watched so far this year:

  Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri 9/10

  Very funny, good characters

  Darkest Hour 8/10

  Focuses on key part Churchill played in fighting on, two marks off for cringeworthy inaccurate underground scene

  Last Flag Flying 8/10

  Funny film, well acted, especially Cranston, slightly anti-war but but not enough for my taste

  The Post 2/10

  Boring attempt to cover contemporary issues of free speech and feminism through historical lens

  Loveless 10/10

  Best film so far, very bleak, set in Russia, beautiful images and some darkly funny scenes

  The Shape of Water 7/10

  Okay sort of fantasy/love story, well done if you like that

  I don't know how accurate this list is. It doesn't mention the New International Version, for example, which I think is the most common Bible after the King James. More common than the Good News Bible which is listed. Plus the list is obviously dated as it shows only 100 million copies of the NWT, whereas the latest figure is over 200 million. No mention of Lord of the Rings or Catcher in the Rye either, which should be near the top of any such list.

  When did Watchtower writings start becoming anonymous?

  i think most people know that authorship was credited in the old watchtower literature, but at some point everything became anonymous.

  i still do not know exactly when this started, but i found this in charles taze russell's last will and testament.

  his will was not honored in other respects, so i doubt they would have honored this request.

  just read on jwsurvey how watchtower has brought legal action against the publishing company.. sounds like it has touched a raw nerve at watchtower.

  The sole exception after 1942, as far as I'm aware, being the booklet "Defending and Lagally Establishing the Good News" in 1950 which bears the Watchtower imprint and names Covington as author.

  Some have suggested that Knorr made the books anonymous because he didn't write them and didn't want to give others prominence. It's also been suggested that Knorr disliked Convington in particular for the prominence that resulted from his legal work for JWs.

  Unrealistic doesn’t even begin to describe it. It’s shocking that this is not the fleeting fancy of a deranged mind, but the product of sustained and coordinated effort of many people over a period of time. Did no one at any stage question or try to steer away from the madness?
