He was praising the latest district convention as a quality production in a recent video. Not sure who he’s intending to appeal to these days. He’s flailing without all the unpaid workers he became accustomed to using.

Will Governing Body follow through with New Zealand Royal Commission's recommendation to publicly apologize?
by was a new boy in'following on from an apology from the prime minister, the commission recommends all faith-based leaders offer a public apology, including the pope, the archbishop of canterbury, the president elect of the methodist church, the moderator of the presbyterian church in new zealand and the head of each individual presbyterian support organisation, the general of the salvation army, the overseeing shepherd of gloriavale, and the governing body of jehovah’s witnesses.'.

Interesting clip.
It looks like a case of: we claim all the authority, but accept none of the responsibility.
Isn’t it remarkable, too, that this new GB member can be so confident expounding the authority of the “faithful slave” of which he is now a part, when until very recently the idea of who comprised the “faithful slave” was different than the current teaching. It’s all very well saying the “faithful slave” can make mistakes, but when the official position is that the “faithful slave” was wrong about its supposed own identity for most of its existence, then it becomes difficult to brush that aside. If the “faithful slave” isn’t even sure who the “faithful slave” is, why should it be trusted about important matters?
Interesting that he mentioned the light getting brighter too. I’ve not heard that for a while. Is that still the official reading of Prov 4.18?

What would happen if the religion just straight out gets outed as bad? The ORG admits to it and all the members get told to disperse
by Starlight.vee inlike the org just gives up and comes out saying that all of what they are saying is untrue and that there is no armageddon, nothing.
how do y’all think the the members still in it would react?.
there be a mental health crisis i perhaps.

Quakers are still very much a going concern, I was at one of their meetings two weeks ago.
Christian Scientists are in steep decline and have been for decades. I can see them folding in the UK sooner rather than later.
I think JWs are doing a good job of keeping members and even attracting a few new followers, compared with most other churches. The latest summer convention is probably the best they’ve ever held in terms of the quality of the programme. They seem to be doing well.

PIMO or FIMO
by bamse ini think we need another designation.
what about fimo for formally in mentally out when you are not removed, but do not attend meetings etc.
then pimo can mean one who dabble with, attend some meetings, but are mentally out.

I think they are probably fairly accurate. There’s always room for individuals or congregation secretaries to falsify reports to some extent, but I doubt it’s happening to any significant degree.
Memorial attendance is a good indicator, although memorial attendance figures during the pandemic were all over the place, probably due to a combination of people reacting during a crisis, and the fact that Zoom complicated what counts as attendance.
One figure that is near impossible to falsify is the number of congregations, so I pay particlar attention to those numbers. The increase in congregations is much slower than publishers in Ireland. Yet, compared with other churches in Europe, any increase in number of congregations is an achievement against a backdrop of churches in steep decline and secularisation.

No doubt part of it, though other countries have refugees and yet JWs are not growing in those countries as in Ireland. Plus JWs are growing faster than the population in general in Ireland. Plus it’s worth noting that other churches are declining in Ireland despite the boost from refugees. JWs seem to be growing more in Ireland than elsewhere for whatever reason. They grew 6% in Ireland in the latest report - very unusual in Europe in recent years.

It’s true that there are fewer JWs as a percentage of the population in Ireland than in most other European countries. On the other hand, while growth has slowed or stopped in other countries, JWs have continued to grow in absolute terms and as a percentage of the population in Ireland.

The more I see Kamala Harris the more I like her. 👍
Whoever the next president is, I hope they have the good sense to try to bring peace to Ukraine and Palestine. At least Trump has promised one and Harris is speaking better on the other. On those two fronts, whoever comes next has got to be better than Biden.

It was overall good, but a couple of parts in the dialogue I found unrealistic.
I doubt a JW elder would say “Jehovah is right here in the room”, or “no one will ever speak to you again, you’ll be an outcast”. I mean it’s not impossible that some JW elder would say that, because these situations play out many thousands of times, and some proportion of them is bound to be whacky and atypical, but it would be unusual wording because JWs don’t usually talk about Jehovah being “in the room”, or say disfellowshipped people will never be spoken to “ever again”, or use the word “outcast”.
The part of the self-righteous young brother who convinces the girl to shun her father, has sex with her, then dumps her to save himself, is all too believable!
