I donât know if the letter from the GB helper is genuine, but it really strikes me as the sort of mealy mouthed answer a liar gives. He doesnât flat out state that the alcohol was for gifts or that Morris paid for it out of his own funds but implies that both might be the case and invites the recipient to draw those conclusions. Sneaky, because if it later turns out not to be the case, after all he only âsuggested the possibilityâ and let the recipient make up his own mind.

They Want More Money!
by Atlantis inthose wanting a copy of this file.
https://docdro.id/fllorzffile example:4. circuit overseer assistance arrangement: in harmony with the announcement to the congregation, please arrange for a resolution to be put to the congregation, authorising payment from congregation funds equivalent to ÂŁ4.50/âŹ5.00 per congregation publisher for the 2019 service year.
if the body of elders believes the suggested amount would impose a hardship on the congregation, the resolved amount can be adjusted accordingly.. .

It seems to be ÂŁ4.50 per publisher per year, not per visit. There are roughly two visits per year. I donât know how the finances of COs have worked up until now, but on the face of it this seems to be an attempt to move at least some of the financial burden away from the branch and onto the congregations. If thatâs what is going on then I think it could easily backfire. What Watchtower never seems to take account of, when asking for more money, is that publishers, as rational consumers, are perfectly capable of simply deducting whatever extra they pay out for an extra fund from what they would have donated to the general fund in the first place. So they may get their extra ÂŁ250 or whatever CO fund from each congregation, but find that contributions to the general worldwide fund goes down by a similar amount, and they are back to square one. In fact if donation solicitation fatigue sets in, then contributions may actually go down over time.
It certainly seems to me that contributions to the general worldwide fund have gone down over the years. With all the extra payments Watchtower insists upon, and the discontinuation of literature, I guess many people simply donât see the point of the world wide work contributions box any more. What Watchtower takes with one hand they lose from the other.

Well I canât remember where I read it now. Or if I saw him mention wealthy family in one of his talks. I guess if it was general knowledge then others would have mentioned it. I was hoping my mentioning it again would prompt someone to supply the details.
But not all wealthy or privileged people avoided Vietnam: John McCain and John Kerry for example.
In his life story Morris described himself as âpatrioticâ which I thought was an interesting choice of word even at this remove.

Who is The Lord?
by JW Answers inthe jehovah's witnesses believe that only the father is lord god, however by searching the scriptures we can identify that there are more than one person in the godhead, and the lord jesus as well as the holy spirit are lord.. for those who are interested in learning, feel free to watch this new video..

Well I would tend to oppose the Trinity on the grounds that it is contrary to scripture. I wouldnât argue that it is wrong because it is âmysteriousâ or it doesnât make sense in human terms. Because I believe there are things about God (or reality) that donât make sense in human terms, and are mysterious. Such as how can God exist in himself, and what does that mean, and why does God allow suffering? I donât know of a rational answer to these questions, but I donât rule out the possibility that there is an answer which is beyond our grasp. Because why should everything about the universe be comprehensible to the human mind? Other than we would wish it to be. Which ironically in other contexts rationists would dismiss as merely wishful thinking.

If you declare âmysteryâ out of order then you rule out a lot of religion by default, since many religions teach that the human mind can not grasp the divine or the infinite.
And if you say âI wonât accept mystery as an answerâ then you have said nothing more than simply âI donât believe in religionâ. Which is fair enough, but it doesnât amount to an argument that will convince anyone who does not already agree with you.
It seems to me the basic disagreement is over the two positions:
1. The true nature of reality is something the human mind cannot grasp.
2. The human mind is capable of grasping the true nature of reality.
I am not aware of any way of settling the issue in favour of one or the other. I tend to hope that 2 is generally true, but I also happen to think that it implies the existence of God. If God does not exist then it seems safer to assume that 1 is true. So we have a paradox at the heart of human knowledge.

No one seems to be discussing that Morris reputedly comes from an extremely wealthy family (tobacco merchants, talking billions of dollars) and has alluded to this on occasion. As I understand it the bethel vow of poverty restricts income but doesnât necessarily renounce wealth. So isnât it possible that Morris is a multi millionaire?

Why is calling it a mystery unacceptable? Apart from you simply declaring it unacceptable.

If Jesus is the same Lord as God, then how come Jesus as Lord is distinguished from Yahweh in Acts 2:34?
The New Testament teaches that Jesus is Lord/Master because he is the Messiah who God raised from the dead.
Whereas God is called Lord/Yahweh because that is his unique name.

Bad Gorby! Bad!
Personally I'm a bit frightened of this strange new world where things can be so easily faked. How long until virtually any text, image, audio or video can be faked to a level that is indistinguishable from the real thing? And then how will we be able to trust anything in the world?
When any piece of evidence can be faked to be indistinguishable from the real thing, how can journalists do their work, or lawyers, or judges, or historians, or anyone else? How will society function?
The more I think about it the more I think this could be a real threat to life and civilisation as we know it.

With the information we have, is there any rational reason (other than wishful thinking and cognitive bias) to assume he's buying all those bottles for personal consumption?
Nothing that proves itâs for personal use, but some reasons for thinking itâs more likely than not. Such as the way he talked about the subject of alcohol when approached.
Plus, in the wider context, the fact that he is a war veteran who witnessed carnage in Vietnam. He has clearly been affected by these experiences, judging by his public comments, so heavy alcohol consumption would be consistent with that. It doesnât prove anything, but it would make sense.
While itâs fair to recognise there are other possibilities, it seems reasonable to conclude the alcohol was likely for person use, or at least for consumption with a few others including his wife. What we do with that conclusion is another matter. How often does he buy that amount? Is that a problem or not? I donât know. I follow the indications of others who know more about alcohol consumption than I do.
