Why the Catholic Church outlast Jehovah's Witnesses
by no-zombie inmany of us who are old timers in "truth", will clearly remember how we and the organization gloated when christendom began selling off their churches, as we saw many ending up becoming cafe's and art galleries.
i personally remember being told (both in general conversation and in print) that the fall of their congregant numbers meant that most churches were ultimately attended by the elderly and it was clearly linked to the "drying up of her waters" in reference to the fall of babylon and babylon the great..
how ironic, that this very situation has now befallen the society and our local kingdom halls..

jwfacts.com Have you looked at it?
by blondie ini use this extensively rather than re-inventing the wheel.. paul grundy, the admin, keeps it up-to-date and welcomes any corrections or new information, especially in a well-written article, supported by wt publication quotes.. the 2 places i check first is www.jwfacts.com and then searching on jwn with key word(s) to see if the topic has been already extensively researched or commented on.. don't be frightened away by the material being more than 3 paragraphs.
the quotes from wt publications is are extensive and from publications that are older and less available.
i find it good to read many posts on a single topic and expand my knowledge and sources.. blondie.

Jwfacts is a good site for information.
I can remember when I first began to doubt Watchtower, I read absolutely everything I could find on Watchtower history. Whole websites, every single page. In particular: Watchtower Observer, Freeminds, Reachout, Carm, Watchtower Information Service, and many others.
Jwfacts was a bit too late for me, and I’ve only read bits of it. It if existed ten years earlier I am sure I would have read the whole website in a couple of days. But then, my attention span isn’t what it used to be.

Yes I find myself thinking similar thoughts. The growth of JWs during the 20th century was pretty impressive, despite those who like to downplay it, yet the communities they have established are ultimately pretty weak and prone to decline just as fast, or faster than they appeared.
I compare it to the decline of the Church of Scotland which has been on a downward trend for over half a century. Some have predicted it will close before 2040. Yet in some ways it displays more resilience than JWs. Ten years ago I would never have expected that the Church of Scotland Yearbook would outlast the JW Yearbook, and yet here in 2019 the JW Yearbook is discontinued, and the CofS red Yearbooks are still going strong.

2019 International Convention Growth Figures from Baptism
by HiddenPimo inso the borg has put up the attendance and baptism figured from the miami and atlanta international conventions.. amazing growth!.
atlanta - 46,374 peak attendance / baptized 314.
0.67% growth.

The “growth” percentage presented appears to be baptisms exprsssed as a percentage of those in attendance at the convention, which is a peculiar way to calculate “growth” to say the least.
Since when was attendance at a convention the measure of JW membership?
What about people who died or became inactive?
Why are only baptisms from the summer convention counted and not the two assemblies?
Not to mention unbaptised publishers, and other issues.
I don’t think this “growth” figure tells us anything much at all. A comparison with last years’ attendance and baptism figures at those conventions would be useful information.

So you wouldn’t even want an end to Watchtower shunning unless it included a full acknowledgment and apology for past actions? That seems like making the perfect the enemy of the good. If Watchtower saving some face is the price to pay for ending shunning it seems a good deal. Or are you more interested in vengeance than preventing harm? -

Watchtower volunteer injuries
by neat blue dog ini was recently talking with a zealous 'sister' who for years was assigned to use a certain chemical while taking care of wt property, only to have it irreparably damage her immune system partly because she wasn't trained properly.
she said there was a potential lawsuit but she didn't want to bring reproach on jehovah's organization.
has anybody else heard of similar situations, of people being hurt or injured in service to the org, maybe even because of them, and taking the loss so the org wouldn't look bad?.

Yes I heard, only in rough outline, that a brother died during Watchtower construction work in Germany due to negligence. The JW family were under a lot of pressure from the congregation not to seek financial compensation from Watchtower. I think they reached an agreement to give the family a modest amount of money for their hardship in order to avoid a court case, but it was generally considered that they would have had a substantial claim if they pursued it.

However you feel about Watchtower in the past, isn’t it better if they cause less harm in future?
