  Can it work both ways?

  am i allowed to discuss to people why i belief in most of their doctrines still?

  because i have noticed people always want me to believe in their stuff, can it work the other way around?

  because you should be able to be on a "level playing field.

  I should be able to! Because you should be able to be on a "level playing field."

  I may be speaking out of line here because I have not read many of your prior postings and threads... This is a discussion board. Seems that you are allowed to discuss whatever you want especially as it concerns beliefs and doctrines of Jehovah's witnesses. Yet, because it is a discussion board, you should expect others to comment back to you about their beliefs. Part of the process is to help each of us prove to ourselves what is right. Or to at least clarify our respective belief systems. I really find it difficult to believe (ha!) that people here 'always want <you> to believe in their stuff.' I think they probably want to help you prove to yourself why you chose to believe the way you do. -Aude. (meaning: Dare to Know; Dare to Have Knowledge/Wisdom) PS: Welcome to the Board.

  Did the bookstudy overseer ever phone you for your "time" and nothing else?

  this happened fairly recently.

  my book study overseer who never calls if i am absent at the meeting, will call me with clockwork regularity at the beginning of the month and ask for my field service report.

  has this ever happened to you?

  tomorrow i am puttting up some items from a 4th generation jehovah's witness family that i've known for years.

  there are some pretty interesting items, and next week or so i'll be putting up some informants, mags from the 20s, 30s and 40s, etc.

  but one thing caught my eye as i was reading the messenger of aug. 12, 1946. description:.

  hello it's been a long time since i was here just needed some input please from all loving parents...would you rather your daughter be:

  1. married to a guy who's not really that great (history of having lotsa women, irresponsible) but seems to love/like your daughter.

  2. be gay (with woman who is quite good, responsible and everything but - a woman...).

  Yes. It is her life, afterall. And she gets to live with the rewards and/or consequences of her decisions. I still respect the individual and would love my child (away in his/her own home, if the lifestyle and choices disturbed my personal sensitivities.) -Aude.

  I'm thinking of going back

  over the weekend my cousin came to visit from mi, and her husband (elder) started to do his shepperding thing with me (have not attended meetings for over 1 year), and made a compeling argument about how the holy spirit is given by god only if you attend meeting and go to field service...etc, etc.

  and the whole "faith and works" issue.

  it was a different angle that i have never heard before, about me being a "instrument or tool" of god...blah, blah, blah... anyhow, it got me thinking about going back...especially when things are not going to well for me right now... (he said its because i left jehovah).. how can i convince myself that this is not true?

  You coulld say i am unstable since my divorce 08/03, battaling depression, alcoholism, low self esteem, self loathing, and occasional suicide. So of course, going back seems like a quick fix.

  This statement convinces me all the more that you should seek counseling. The things that make you so unhappy originate from within. They can be repaired, and you can be happy - but you have to take the necessary steps in that direction. There is no "quick fix".

  Something here strikes me that going back to the organization is more likely an avoidance technique. Some people sleep, some take drugs, some drink, some work crazy-long hours, some hide in a religion - all to avoid taking action in their own lives. Waiting for someone/something else to fix them. (I know I avoided alot.) Neither the WT org nor Jehovah will make these problems go away. The only thing they will do is distract the person from taking action and responsibility for their own life and happiness. -Aude.

  The comment Mrs. Jackson made about warm, sunny L.A. being like paradise compared to cold Gary, Indiana was funny. I wonder if she thinks it is such a paradise today?

  here's a question i hope someone can answer for me, if elders are aware that someone in the cong has been accused of child molestation/rape, and the elders have young children of their own how do they deal with this individual amongst them?

  ***in case where molester denies wrong doing & no action taken***.

  would they allow their kids to go on field service w/ this person?.

  I would have to agree with you about disregard for the children. Not all, but certainly many elders and 'older' ones that I have known showed this attitude.

  My brother wrote a letter to a psychiatrist a few years back regarding his recollection of our parents. One sentence in particular I will always remember:

  They seemed to view their chilren as possessions rather than as sacred charges.

  I think this was very profound statement and quite succinctly sums up the view that most JWs have of children. Not sacred charges entrusted in parental care by Jehovah, but as personal possessions to use and abuse as they desire with little or no regard for the child.

  Horrifying, indeed.

I stated that my sister had studied the bible with Ralph & Maria Heroux and me & my two small children would like to study the bible also, But before I do this my husband wants to know what procedures you take to protect children in your church. I told Mr. Joseph A my husband was worried because we have a 2 & 3 year old and with the whole catholic scandal he just wants to be sure our kids are safe. He stated we do not have anyone like that in our church and if we did if it was in their past and they repented it was okay. I answered I would like Ralph & Maria to study with me & my kids. Joe stated Ralph was not available but Maria was. I stated I was going on vacation and would be back the 2nd week in February, could I call them when I get back? Joe A said that yes Ralph & Maria will be available to study the bible with me and my children then. Mr. Joe A can be reached at the Seekonk congregation or at home . I will be calling them back in February to see if they will meet with me.

  I remember reading that post when I first found this site...

  As I recall, the man was still in jail at the time. The elder told the 'interested person' that he was unavailable for a study at the moment so someone else could begin the study and the man could take over in a few weeks {when released from jail}.

  It was quite a horrifying story.

  just introducing myself

  i never did become a jw but i did associate with them for a few years by attending meetings, going house to house, and all that fun stuff.

  anyway, i have so much in my mind that i cannot possibly say in one post.

  basically i saw/heard many things during my association with jw that i just didn't agree with or just made me wonder if they were truly teaching the "truth", which i have recently come to the conclusion that there is no truth.
