I just recently met a woman who was df'd in the late 50's or early 60's.
DF'd for accepting blood.
A few years later the brothers tried to get her to come back but she never did.
She is happy to be out of the 'troot', as she calls it.

as you know i just returned from visiting my great-aunt whom i hadn't seen in 40 years (she's still a jw).
i asked her if she shunned my mother when she was disfellowshipped in 1964. she said they society did not promote shunning at this time.
is this true?

I remember seeing copies of Armstrong's The Plain Truth all around town usually in restaurants.
The word I got was that he plagerized the WTS.
I mostly found it more interesting reading than the WT. (Oops!! Did I actually admit that??!!)
Maybe it was just that it was a different writing style....

after reading the thread of "toxic relationships" i began to wonder, are there advantages to being an only child and / or would you rather have siblings even though the relationhips can be painful.. i am an only child and i am beginning to think that i am not missing much by not having brothers and sisters.. did you family size have anything to do with your decision to have one child/ or more than one child?
I am the oldest of 5 but we are spaced out. I'm 45 and the youngest is almost 24. We all have the same parents.
I mostly enjoyed having siblings but it was (and still is) alot of work. The youngest lives with me (again). My brother (3 yrs younger than me) and I fought alot growing up and I became kind of bossy. (Ok very bossy.)
Of the 5 of us, only one has children and he only has 2.
Looking at the friends I most closely grew up with, one has 2 children, another had a teen pregnancy 30 years ago, and two have no children.
In my family, I think it was the poor family dynamics combined with rigid christian values and a conscience that was fearful of bringing more children into a system soon-to-end encouraged me not to be too anxious to have children.
If I could, I would life my life differently. But since I can't, I am mostly happy with how I live my life now.

if they any of them had or have children that needed a blood transfusion to live, i wonder if they would deny their children blood and watch them die for the watchtower society?.
or would you see a quick change of doctrine?
ie: new light?.
*IF* one of them had a child and *IF* that child needed blood, I think it may be mother that makes the louder proclamation to allow blood.
Alone with just father and child, blood denied.
I'm certain of it.

i live in an apartment complex where one can pay extra for a garage, not a car port, but a full blown garage with an automatic garage door opener.
i love having this garage, but sometimes people come along and park their car in front of my garage door and block me from being able to leave or return to my garage.
some asshole in an suv did it again tonight and prevented me from being able to park my car in my garage.
For what it's worth, I now have new offenders blocking my garage.
I am generally cordial with my neighbors, always say 'hi' but when they block my garage, i'm not so nice. I gave the new ones a stern look and verbal warning: 'Don't park here' (Their garage is next to mine but they don't block their own gargage, just mine). They still leave the car there sometimes but usually leave someone - often one of the kids - who keeps a look-out for me! They move the car just as I am pulling up to the door.
The ones who use my parking space without asking, are very prone to towing. I'm about to program the tow company's phone number into my cell phone.
I feel your pain!

$70.00 a month.
Boy, I'd be hoppin' mad.
Can the management company help you with this trouble. Perhaps they can fine the offending party(s).
Wouldn't they fine offenders who were too noisy or who threw trash around the yard? The same corrective action should be taken for parking offenders. IMO
my wife has been talking up how much she wanted to attend this weekend's one day assembly in rosenburg.
she made all these big plans, had her hair done, been dropping hints all month that she would like it if i attended with her.
(i had no intention of going and listening to that garbage.).
I remember doing that just by myself.
It took a few years after I stopped going to meetings to even make plans on Tuesday/Thursday evenings.
I'd take her actions as a good sign. Let her work thru her contradictory behaviour.
'course maybe you could help make it easier for her to accept the fact that she does not *really* want to be at the meetings and assemblies.

We have a terrible parking situation in my condo-complex.
People parking in reserved spots and blocking access to garages all the time.
We had to get special signs installed then hired a security company to patrol the complex multiple times each day. At first they were 'booting' cars to immobilize the offenders. Now they are being towed.
One or two people get towed and word spreads that you mean business.
Sure it might be expensive for the person to get their vehicle out of the impound lot, but I wonder how much you are paying for that nice garage that you are not guaranteed access to.??
Oh yeah!! How did it feel when you hobbled on your bad foot to keep them from feeling the pain to their wallet? I was pretty peeved a few years ago when I was in chemo treatment and had to drag my bald little head half way down the block to park because someone was blocking my garage. Couple of my neighbors made sure that that particular person didn't do that no-no again.
People often don't make change until their behavior starts costing them money or extreme embarrassment.
Once this starts happening to your 'visitors' you most likely start to see the clear path to your garage.

i ran this a few years ago and got no response, but there's been a lot of turnover in the board and many new members since then.
just wondering if anyone here was ever in the same congregation as me?
1969-75 west springfield, ma.
I used to spend summers in Hyannis and would go to the cong there.
That was back in the mid 70's.

men must have short hair in the org.. does this mean that sisters can have their hair as long as they want?.
I remember being told that having hair so very, very long was wrong because it drew undue attention to the woman.
In service, it would detract from our life-saving message.
